Phillip Adams Mental Health Problem Led him to Kill 5+Himself
Phillip Adams’ mental health problem caused the former NFL player to shot five people, including a beloved doctor, to death before killing himself early Thursday (April 8), based on what Phillip Adams’ sister claimed.
Adams killed five people Wednesday in Rock Hill, South Carolina, before later taking his life, the York County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Thursday afternoon. The victims include Dr. Robert Lesslie, 70, Barbara Lesslie, 69, and grandchildren Adah Lesslie, 9, and Noah Lesslie, 5. Police announced that the dead body of James Lewis, 38, was found outside.
York County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said that officials could not determine a motive for Wednesday’s fatal shooting. “There’s nothing right now that makes sense to any of us,” Tolson stated.
Bodies of James Lewis, of Gastonia, North Carolina, were discovered outside. The surviving technician, who contacted his employer and said he’d been shot, moving the employer to call 911, was seriously injured and transported to a hospital in critical condition, according to Tolson’s words in a Thursday news conference.
Story Behind Phillip Adams’ Mental Health
Although Lauren Adams claimed her brother did not show any signs of violent behavior, she did say he’d become more aggressive. Thursday, at the news interview, Tolson played audio of two 911 calls, the first from an HVAC company that Lewis and Shook work there. One of the men, the caller reported, had called him “screaming” and saying that he had been shot and that his coworker was shot and “unresponsive.”
“I think there’s been a bad shooting,” another man said in the 911 call, stating he was outside cutting his grass and learned “about 20” shots fired at the Lesslie home then saw someone leave the house.
Tolson said evidence at the scene led authorities to Adams as a suspect. He said they went to Adams’ parents’ home, evacuated them and then tried to talk Adams out of the house. Eventually, they found him dead of a gunshot wound to the head.
