Scottish Comic Book Writer Alan Grant Passed Away at 73

It is with the deepest sorrow to announce that the Scottish comic book writer who is known for writing Judge Dredd in 2000 AD left us behind. Alan Grant passed away on July 21, 2022, at the age of 73. May he rest in peace.

He was born on February 9, 1949, in Bristol, England. He is a Scottish writer who lived and worked in a Gothic Mansion in Scotland which is regarded as one of the influences for his work on Comic Books.

From the late 1980s to the early 2000s, he was the writer of various Batman comics. He is the co-creator of the characters He created 4 DC comics Characters: Victor Zsasz, Amygdala, Anarky, and Dr. Jeremiah Arkham. He also co-created Judge Dredd with John Wagner.

On July 21, 2022, a comic book writer that is famous for various Batman comics left this world. Alan Grant passed away at the age of 73.

Grant was married to Susan Grant and the couple had children. He lived with her in Moniaive, Dumfriesshire. In 2020, during the pandemic, he helped dozens of locals produce a comic book chronicling their battle with Covid-19.

First, he became a big name in the UK comic industry. After a while, because of his magnificent talent, he got his big break in America and wrote strips for DC Comics and Epic Comics.

Grant had a noticeable sense of humor during his time in 2000 AD and he was renowned for that. Also, he teamed up with John Wagner on Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog throughout the 1980s. These two soon went on to work for DC Comics, writing Batman stories in Detective Comics from 1988.

After that, Grant organized a yearly comic book festival in the area in an effort to boost tourism following the devastation caused by the foot-and-mouth outbreak. Grant wrote a lot of books and comics during his life some of the most famous ones are:

He didn’t write any comic books for Marvel but Grant worked on publications for Marvel, Lego, and independent publishers after starting his career and rising to fame with DC Thomson in Dundee.

Alan Grant Passed Away

His wife Susan announced on Facebook that Alan had just died on the morning of July 21, 2022. There is no more specific information about the reason behind his death. Some reports claim that he died after a long illness.

Through his work, he had a profound and enduring influence on 2000 AD and on the comics industry.”
