Robert Auld was born on March 23, 1938, in Maryhill, Glasgow. He was a member of Celtic’s Lisbon Lions, which won the European Cup Final in 1967.

As a player, Bertie made more than 200 appearances in the Scottish League. He played for Celtic, Hibernian, and Dumbarton and more than 100 in the Football League in England with Birmingham City. Auld also earned three caps for Scotland early in his career.

He was also known as manager at Partick Thistle, where he spent six seasons and is held in high regard, being appointed to the club’s Hall of Fame. Auld also had managerial stints at Hibernian, Hamilton Academical, and Dumbarton.

He first joined Celtic in 1955, where he was converted from a fullback into a winger. He was sold to Birmingham City in 1961 for £15,000. He won a League Cup medal in 1963 with the Midlands club.

Auld returned to Celtic in a £12,000 deal in 1965. No longer considered a winger, he formed a midfield partnership with Bobby Murdoch.

Auld finished his playing days at Easter Road before moving into management with Partick Thistle in 1974 for six years. As a manager, he won the old First Division title with the Jags and Hibs in 1975-76 and 1980-81.
