Brutal Disease Led to Voice Actor Billy Kametz’s Death at 35


There’s some heartbreaking news coming out of the voice acting industry today (June 12, 2022). A brutal disease led to popular video game and anime voice actor Billy Kametz’s death at the age of 35.

His passing was announced by the agency Point of Contact, which wrote in a statement on Twitter: “With tremendous and heartbroken regret, we must inform you of the passing of @BillyKametz.”

The actor was well-known within the anime and video game industry. For the role of Naofumi Iwatani in The Rising of the Shield Hero in 2019, Billy won Best Voice Actor Performance at the 4th Crunchyroll Anime Awards.

Billy Kametz’s cause of death was determined as colon cancer.

Kametz voiced characters in anime series such as BorutoDemon SlayerAttack on TitanJoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (Josuke Higashkata), Neon Genesis Evangelion (Shigeru Aoba), and Pokémon Journeys (Ren).

He was born and raised in Pennsylvania on March 22, 1987, and got his break with Disney as part of the entertainment staff on the Disney cruise line. The voice actor later moved to California when he received the offer of the role of Aladdin in Disneyland’s Musical Spectacular.

Billy Kametz’s Cause of Death Reported as Cancer

The well-known voice actor for Josuke Higashikata in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Billy Kametz’s cause of death was determined as colon cancer. He died on June 9, 2022, at 35.

The agency then posted a second tweet, writing “Billy loved his fans so much and I know this is a horrible shock. Please take care of yourselves. Breathe. You are part of his legacy and he would want to know you’re going to be okay.”

Earlier this year, the voice actor announced he would be taking a break from acting and moving home to Hershey, following his colon cancer diagnosis. Fans and followers contributed to a GoFundMe page to help finance his medical costs.

Kametz’s work for Ferdinand will appear in the upcoming Fire Emblem: Three Hopes, which will be released on June 24, 2022.

His burial will be on June 18, 2022. Those who wish to express their deepest condolences for Billy are suggested to donate to the Colon Cancer Coalition.

The late artist is survived by his parents William and Cheryl, his sister Nikki Kametz Lees and her two sons, and his girlfriend Erica Lindbeck, who is also a voice actress.

Kametz has also left behind a legacy of many fans who will always remember the joy and happiness that he brought to the world with his talents.

Tributes to Billy have already come pouring in across social media from close friends, fans, and followers. Voice actor Ben Diskin (Kensuke Aida in Neon Genesis Evangelion) described Billy as “an amazing person who brightened the lives of everyone [he] met.”

Kaiji von Tang (Takatoshi Hijiyama in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim), Matthew Mercer (Jotaro Kujo in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure), and Kira Buckland (Jolyne Cujoh in Jojo’s BizarreAdventure) joined a Twitter thread celebrating his great work mere days before Billy passed away, describing him as “masterful, and sincere,” and “uplifting, wonderful, and optimistic.”
