Soap Actor Billy Miller’s Death After Manic Depression
Billy Miller’s cause of death is not available at this time but his manager said the soap star was struggling with manic depression at the time of his death.
His manager confirmed the news in a statement on Sunday, which would’ve marked Miller’s 44th birthday.
“The actor was struggling with manic depression when he died,” the statement reads.
William John Miller II was born on September 17, 1979, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, U.S. He was best known for his roles on The Young and the Restless and General Hospital.
Billy’s first break into acting came after he signed on with the Wilhelmina modeling agency. Miller appeared in six commercials, including two for Electronic Arts’ The Sims.
Miller also did commercials for JCPenney, Pizza Hut and pokerparty.com. In 2006, Miller starred in an episode of CSI: NY.
Best known for his work in soaps, Miller won three Daytime Emmy Awards for his role as Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless. After leaving Y&R in 2014 following a six-year stint, Miller jumped to General Hospital, where he took over the role of Jason Morgan/Drew Cain from Steve Burton. He left the ABC soap in 2019.
Suits creator Aaron Korsh is among the mourners paying tribute to the late actor, who recurred on the USA Network hit as Marcus Specter, the brother of Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter.
“Very sad news for the entire Suits family. I flew home once with Billy. We had a great time, bonding over the five hour flight, which seemed like it was over in minutes. A funny, smart, kind, gentle man,” Korsh wrote on X (fka Twitter) on Sunday.
Gabriel Macht memorialized Miller in an X post early Monday morning, writing, “RIP my tv bro #BillyMiller I am touched by ur thoughtfulness, ur authentic honest approach 2 ur art, ur kind nature & big smile that Litt us all.
“May ur memory always be a blessing to ur Mother, ur Sister & her children. & 2 so many you’ve touched.”

Former ‘The Young and the Restless’ actor Billy Miller’s cause of death has not been shared by his manager. He died in Austin, Texas, on September 15, 2023.
In addition to Suits, Miller’s primetime credits included guest stints on CSI: NY, Major Crimes, Justified, Ringer, and Ray Donovan.
Miller also recurred in the first season of the Apple TV+ drama Truth Be Told as the husband of Lizzy Caplan’s Lanie.
Executive producer of General Hospital, Frank Valentini, posted a tribute on X, formerly known as Twitter. “I am devastated to hear news of the incredibly talented Billy Miller’s passing,” he wrote.
Valentini added: “On behalf of the entire @GeneralHospital family, our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
General Hospital star Jon Lindstrom remembered Billy Miller with pictures of him in a t-shirt supporting women directors.
He penned: “BillyMiller was gifted, smart, funny, and impressed me as a great friend to those close to him. He didn’t blink when I asked him to put on this shirt to help raise up the women in our industry.
“His heart was in the right place & I always laughed around him.”
Fellow General Hospital star T.K. Weaver posted a picture of him and Miller with the caption: “Devastated. Hard to find words. You always gave me such good advice. You were always there for me.
“You were an amazing person. #BillyMiller I’ll never forget you. Please join me in praying for his family and loved ones.”
One of Miller’s close friends wrote on Instagram: “Omg my heart is broken. My dear friend Billy Miller just passed away who I’ve known since my aunt Alice started working on @generalhospitalabc.
“I still can’t believe it Billy died way to young… I will never forget your talent, your smile and how humble you were Rest in peace.”
