Bob Dylan Collaborator, Bob Neuwirth Sadly Passed Away at 82


The folk singer-songwriter Bob Neuwirth passed away at the age of 82. His partner Paula Batson confirmed the death news to Rolling Stone. he died Wednesday, May 18, 2022, in Santa Monica, CA.

Robert Neuwirth was born on June 20, 1939. He was an American folk music singer, songwriter, record producer, and visual artist born in Akron, Ohio, U.S.

He is more famous because of his relationship with Bob Dylan. Besides their relationship, he had a significant influence on Dylan. Neuwirth appears in Dylan’s own self-referential romantic fantasy/tour film Renaldo and Clara.

Paula Batson confirmed on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, that his partner Bob Neuwirth passed away at the age of 82.

Also, he was seen throughout the documentary Don’t Look Back, and formed the backing band for the Rolling Thunder Revue tour. He co-authored tmb of Mercedes Benz by Janis Joplin.

In 1994 he also collaborate With John Cale and they released a song called Last Day on Earth.

Neuwirth assembled with Dylan to make a band called Rolling Thunder Revue. he co-wrote the song “Mercedes Benz” with the help of Janis Joplin and poet Michael McClure.

Kris Kristofferson who had a hit single called “Me and Bobby McGee“, was first introduced by Neuwirth to Janis Joplin.

For over 60 years, Bob was at the epicenter of cultural moments from Woodstock, to Paris, Don’t Look Back to Monterey Pop, Rolling Thunder to Nashville, and Havana.

Patti Smith remembered Bob Neuwirth by recalling their first meeting in the lobby of the Chelsea Hotel. she said that Bob asked her what she had in her notebook?, and she answered ‘Nothing,’

Smith added that she was trying to act cool but she was instantly and totally in love. Smith said in Clinton Heylin’s 2005 book From the Velvets to the Voidoids: The Birth of American Punk Rock: “Bobby looked in my book and asked me who wrote that stuff and I told him I did. … I think he immediately recognized something in me that I didn’t even recognize in myself, and he took me under his wing.”

In 2016, he had an interview with The Paris Review and said: “What’s available is what happens. Whatever art supplies are available is what the project becomes. When paintings are drying or I’m taking a break in the studio, there’s always a guitar lying around.”
