The news of Busisiwe Lurayi’s sudden death was confirmed through a statement by her agency, Eye Media Artists. Actress Busi Lurayi’s cause of death is unknown until the family receives the autopsy results.

According to the statement, medical personnel declared Busi dead at her residence on Sunday, July 10, 2022. “The reason for the death is still unknown as we await the results of the autopsy report,” read the statement.

“We humbly request that you allow us, as the family, to come to terms with this tragic news. We thank you for the support that has been given so far, and we will provide further information as soon as it has been made available,” the statement added.

Most recently the actress appeared in two seasons of the Netflix show, How To Ruin Christmas as Tumi Sello. She was also well known for her notable role as Phumzile on the SABC 1 sitcom City Ses’la and its spin-off series Ses’Top La.

Busi won the SAFTA award for the best-supporting actress in a TV comedy in 2006. In 2011 and 2021, the star won the same award for best actress in a television comedy for City Ses’la and How to Ruin Christmas, respectively.

The family of Busi Lurayi confirmed her sudden death via a statement on Monday, July 11, 2022. According to the statement, the talented star passed away at her home on her home and was confirmed dead by medical personnel.

“We are deeply saddened to notify you of the passing of our beloved Busisiwe Lurayi,” her family wrote to announce the heartbreaking news.

Lurayi was both a stage and on-screen actress. She gained fame when she starred in the first two seasons of How to Ruin Christmas: The Wedding and How to Ruin Christmas: The Funeral.

She has a daughter who she reportedly calls Ayana. Busi shared a photo oh her daughter and herself on her Instagram account and wrote: “We worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that she is someone today- Stacia Tauscher. You my love, you’re just magic! 💫.”

Her baby daddy is businessman Mziwoxolo Qwelane. The couple had some drama looming in 2020 when he claimed Busi stole furniture from his home in Randburg.

After the heartbreaking news of Busi Lurayi’s death was announced, many fans and friends shared their condolences and paid touching tributes to the great actress.

“RIP: Busi Lurayi. The prolific Stage & Screen actress has passed on,” entertainment commentator and TV host, Kgopolo, wrote on Twitter.

NetflixSA tweeted: “An incredible light has gone out in the South African entertainment industry. We are deeply saddened by the passing of award-winning stage & screen actor Busi Lurayi. We will hold onto the laughs, the beauty & the moments of joy she bought us.”

“I was always rooting for Busi Lurayi. What a brilliant actress. What a shame she will not be able to continue sharing her brilliance with the world. Oh Bawo,” a Twitter user wrote.
