Ventura County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez’s Cause of Death


We have received a piece of heartbreaking news regarding the death of an Oxnard resident and attorney on August 12, 2022. Carmen Ramirez’s cause of death was reported as she was killed by an SUV while she was walking in a crosswalk in Oxnard on Friday evening. May she rest in peace.

She had served on the Oxnard City Council and the Ventura County Board of Supervisors where she also was the chairwoman this year.

It was about two years ago in November 2020 when she was elected as a supervisor and became the first Latina in county history to achieve that position. She improved her level this year by becoming the first Latina to be elected by her fellow board members as chairwoman of the powerful board.

On August 12, 2022, the first Latina on the Oxnard City Council passed away. Carmen Ramirez's cause of death was announced.

At first, her death news was confirmed by the County of Ventura who sent their condolences and said in a statement: “Our County mourns the loss of our Chair of the Board Carmen Ramirez. Chair Ramirez was a pedestrian involved in a vehicle accident in Oxnard and passed away this evening.”

They added: “We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, and her City and County community.”

Ramirez was married to Roy Prince and there is no specific information about their marriage and if they had children or not. Also, She was predeceased by her brother Ricardo Ramirez.

Carmen Ramirez was an incredible woman that has been described as passionate, hard-working, a powerhouse, and a huge advocate on climate issues as well as on behalf of her community and underserved populations who put other people’s interests before her own.

Carmen Ramirez Cause of Death

On Friday night, Carmen Ramirez’s cause of death was announced as she was killed after being struck by a vehicle in downtown Oxnard. It has been reported that officers from the Oxnard Police Department responded to the call of a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at around 6:40 PM.

After investigations, the victim was identified as former Oxnard City Council Mayor Pro Tem and current District 5 Chair of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, who is Carmen Ramirez. 

On August 12, 2022, the first Latina on the Oxnard City Council passed away. Carmen Ramirez's cause of death was announced.

After the accident Ramirez was transported to Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura where it was reported by the chief that she was dead less than an hour at 7:17 p.m.

Matt Jacobs shared on his social media: “I’m extremely saddened to learn about the passing of Supervisor Carmen Ramirez. She was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about her community. My prayers are with her family during this incredibly difficult time.”

On social media, messages of condolences were sent to Carmen Ramirez’s family and loved ones. His friends shared their sadness through their Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter pages. May he rest in peace.

“It is with sadness that we mourn the sudden loss of Ventura County Supervisor and friend, Carmen Ramirez. Her advocacy for the under-served made her a guiding force for the community. We are grateful for Carmen’s years of service.” St. John’s Hospitals tweeted.
