Christopher Owen Ayres passed away peacefully, held close by his mother, brother, and girlfriend, and his arm wrapped around his Atticus pillow,” she announced.”

“He was able to pet the real thing hours beforehand. His hands were held. His face was kissed. We played Jim Croce, The Charlie Chaplin musical, and one hand stayed on my waist as I held the other while Unchained Melody played, the song we knew would be the first dance at our wedding,

“His mother and brother told stories of his childhood as he left. I have never been alive in a world where Chris wasn’t. I am scared of it,” she added.

“So much of humanity’s kindness, compassion, gentleness, bravery, generosity, and integrity were concentrated in one man. Everything feels so much colder,” LaPorte said in a Twitter post.

Christopher Ayres’ cause of death was confirmed on October 18. The voice actor passed away after a years-long battle with COPD.

In November 2017, Christopher was diagnosed with end-stage COPD and required a double lung transplant to survive. In November 2019, it was announced that he received new lungs after his surgery.

Chris Ayres, whose full name was Christopher Owen Ayres, was born on May 16, 1965, in Richmond, Virginia, United States. He was known as a voice actor, stage actor, stage director, fight director, ADR director, and scriptwriter.

Chris worked on English versions of Japanese anime series at OkraTron 5000, New Generation Pictures, Funimation, and formerly Seraphim Digital/Sentai Filmworks.

He started his acting career when he was six and has performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway as well as in several regional productions.

Ayres started his voice acting career at ADV Films on Novel series Kino’s Journey as an extra. In anime, he was best known as the voice of Frieza from Dragon Ball Z Kai.

He was also known as the voice actor of Prince Soma from Black Butler, Kei Kurono from Gantz, and Shingen Takeda from the Sengoku Basara series.

Christopher was also known for Mock Combat for Cosplay panels at anime conventions.
