Clu Gulager’s Cause of Sudden Death at 93 Brings Sorrow to All


We have lost another great television and film actor, announced on August 6, 2022. To respect his family’s privacy, Clu Gulager’s cause of death will remain private. He was 93 years old.

FANGORIA announced: “Fango is saddened to learn of the passing of Clu Gulager, who amassed over 150 credits in film and TV. Horror fans will remember him best in RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2, and the FEAST films. Our condolences to his family, friends, and many fans.”

Bron on November 16, 1928, the beloved actor and director attracted much attention to himself for his work in television, appearing in the co-starring role of William H. Bonney (Billy the Kid) in the 1960–1962 NBC television series The Tall Man and as Emmett Ryker in another NBC Western series, The Virginian.

Soon after, he had a second career as a horror film actor, including a lead part in Dan O’Bannon’s The Return of the Living Dead. He also made an appearance in A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge (1985).

He started his role in his son’s horror films in 2005 called the Feasts films and Piranha DD which appears to be in his 80s.

He was cast as Burt Wilson in the Dan O’Bannon-directed 1985 cult classic, The Return of the Living Dead. Mr. Gulager played in Feast in 2005, followed by movies which were directed by John, his son:

  • The movie’s two sequels, Feast II: Sloppy Seconds (2008)
  • Feast III: The Happy Finish (2009)

Clu Gulager played a short role in the critically acclaimed independent film Tangerine (2015) as well. His final screen performance is known to be an unnamed book store owner in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in 2019.

Behind Shadows Clu Gulager’s Cause of Death

Not a lot has been shared to clarify Clu Gulager’s cause of death, although many believe the cause relates to his age. No sign of deadly diseases or health issues was found in the background, yet.

He once quoted: “We need to laugh, we need to be scared, we need to hug our girl in the theater. It lightens the load of this crummy life.”

To know a little about his personal life, he married fellow actress Miriam Byrd-Nethery on June 19, 1952. The pair are blessed with two sons, John and Tom. The lovely couple stayed by their sides till her death parted them in 2003.

Miriam Byrd-Nethery born on May 17, 1929, starred in movies such as Bound for Glory (1976) and Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, and Across Five Aprils (both 1990)

A fan commented: “So sad. A horror icon, with such a great career before he reinvented himself within the genre in the 80s. R.I.P Clu Gulager.”
