While many fans are searching for Colt Brennan’s cause of death, his father, Terry Brennan, revealed the possible cause of death.

Terry Brennan said that Colt ingested something that was apparently laced with fentanyl and never was able to regain consciousness. The elder Brennan also said that his son tried to enter into a detox facility at a Newport Beach, Calif., hospital but was unable to stay because it had no beds available.

“He was really into it. It involved a lot of physical activity, and he liked it. He was working with soldiers who had come back from Afghanistan and Iraq with similar problems. He was doing quite well with it for four months. Then something happened, and he went to the dark side, and it was just not good,” the former quarterback’s father said of his son.

“He was doing so well, the spark was back in his eyes, and he was healthy and doing great, and it happened. Obviously, someone gave him a pain pill of some sort, but it was fentanyl, according to what we’re understanding,” he told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. “We’re still a long way from figuring it out. That’s where we are right now.”

Colt Brennan’s father revealed that Colt was a patient at a rehabilitation facility in Southern California. He was found unconscious several days ago and was transported to Hoag Hospital in Newport. He sadly passed away on Monday.

His father also added: “He went peacefully … He listened to Bob Marley. His sisters had a lei around him when he was unconscious. They had the music of Bob Marley playing near his ear.”

Colt Brennan’s accident in 2010 led to a serious condition for the legendary NFL player. The Former UH quarterback and two women were seriously injured in a crash on Hawaii’s Big Island.

The Queen’s Medical Center said at that time that Brennan was in serious condition and he was suffering from internal bleeding in the brain and back injuries. Brennan’s agent, Ryan Tollner, confirmed the news.

According to Brennan’s father, Terry Brennan, Colt suffered three or four broken ribs, head injuries, and a broken left collar bone.

I badly broke my collarbone, and on the X-rays it was just like crack, crack, crack, crack, crack, crack all the way down my left side. I woke up and I was — and I still am — a different person. I suffered minor TBI — traumatic brain injury. I just have a small scar, you know, on my brain, but it’s in an area that makes you impulsive and emotional. I’ve had to learn how to control that,” Colt said.
