Journalist Daniel Passent’s Cause of Death is Behind Shadow


Journalist, writer, and diplomat Daniel Passent has sadly passed away at the age of 84. Daniel Passent’s cause of death has not been determined at this time.

The information about his passing was first released by “Polityka” weekly, with which Daniel Passent has been collaborating throughout his whole career since 1959.

Daniel Passent was born on April 28, 1938, in Stanisławów, Poland. As a Jewish child, Daniel was saved from Holocaust by a Polish family, and his parents were killed in 1944.

Passent studied journalism at the University of Warsaw, Princeton University, Saint Petersburg State University, and Harvard University in the 1950s and 1960s.

The writer first wrote for a communist youth magazine Sztandar Młodych in his sophomore year at the University of Warsaw. In college, Passent wrote satirical texts for a student standup comedy group Studencki Teatr Satyryków.

There Passent met his wife, Agnieszka Osiecka, a Polish poet and lyricist. His daughter, Agata Passent, is also a journalist.

Since 1959 Daniel has been working for a Polish weekly Polityka. Daniel was a journalist in Boston for a Spanish monthly magazine El Diario Mundial from 1990 to 1997. Passent also served as a Polish ambassador to Chile.

Daniel Passent’s Cause of Death Remains Secret

There is no information surrounding Daniel Passent’s cause of death at 84. His family also has not released any statement related to his death cause.

In addition to his articles and columns, Daniel wrote several books about the Vietnam War, about the Olympic Summer Games 1972 in Munich, the drug problem in the USA, and about a Polish tennis player, Wojciech Fibak.

He also translated books and other texts by Martin Luther King Jr. and James Baldwin into Polish. In 1997, Daniel received Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.

An article in a conservative Polish newspaper Dziennik claimed that Daniel Passent worked in the 1960s as a spy for the communist government.

After the sad news of Daniel Passent’s death was revealed, his friends and fans flooded social media with tribute messages. Many fans also took to Twitter to pay touching tributes to him.

Kris Janowski wrote: “One of Poland’s best-known journalists and columnists, Daniel Passent, has died. He was 83. During Communist rule, Passent’s witty and funny columns published in the Communist Party weekly ‘Polityka’ were a rare exception in the dreary world of official propaganda. RIP.”
