Boston Bruins star David Pastrnak announced the heartbreaking news of his newborn son in a heartfelt Instagram post early Monday morning.
The heartbroken father posted on his Instagram page that Viggo Rohl Pastrnak, who was born on June 17, died on June 23.
“We have an Angel watching over us and we call him SON,” Pastrnak wrote. “You will be loved FOREVER.”

This was Pastrnak’s only child with his girlfriend, Rebecca Rohlsson. The couple announced in a sweet gender reveal in January that they were expecting a boy.

“You’re getting ready for the baby and we couldn’t be more excited. So, hockey’s not been talked much lately at home and sometimes that’s good, you know?” he added.
The past year was difficult for the Bruins player, who lived far away from his family during the Coronavirus pandemic. “When things are going well, it’s good, and when things are not going well, sometimes you just need to think about other stuff,” David said.
“For me it’s been definitely something new, but I’m so excited. Family is always going to be number one, and at the end of the day, I’m grateful that I can live and work with a job that I love, but at the end of the day it’s just a game,” Pastrnak said.

The Bruins released a brief statement later Monday morning saying that all the players and organization were “heartbroken” by Viggo’s death. “We are heartbroken by the passing of David and Rebecca’s son, Viggo,” the team wrote on Twitter.
“David and Rebecca are a part of our family and we share in their loss. Please keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy during this very difficult time.”
“I am so sorry for you guys brother,” Oliver Kylington, a defenseman for the Calgary Flames, wrote.
