Denver Politico Dennis Gallagher’s Cause of Death Revealed

We are saddened to announce that a longtime Democratic political figure from northwest Denver, Dennis Gallagher’s cause of death is still unknown after he passed away on Friday night (April 22, 2022) at his home at the age of 82.

May he rest in peace and God gives his loved ones enough power to deal with the loss.

His close friend and colleague, Clay Vigoda, announced Gallagher was unhappy on and off for the last few weeks, though nobody was around. He was in “good spirits” on Friday, Vigoda said before he took a rest and died.

“It was shocking to everybody,” he stated.

Gallagher is likely most well-known for the “Gallagher Amendment,” which gave Colorado’s legislature in 1982. It was intended to lower residential property taxes at a time when Coloradans faced extremely steep rights to the state. In 1992, Colorado passed another modification, the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, or TABOR, which involved Gallagher’s legacy.

While Gallagher always stood behind his revision, he did support changes that would loosen the “noose” on state spending that it had become under TABOR. Instead, voters rescinded his revision in 2020.

Dennis Gallagher’s Cause of Death-Related to Illness

Dennis Gallagher, a longtime Democratic political figure from northwest Denver who wrote the Gallagher Amendment died Friday night at his home. Gallagher was 82.

A Denver native, Gallagher was known as a kind-hearted and compelling man whose longtime involvement in politics, his local community, Colorado’s Irish community, and the Catholic Church established an impressive legacy.

“Dennis was a large presence in Denver. For decades, his public service was reflected every day, not just for his beloved north side, but for the benefit of our entire city,” announced Mayor Michael Hancock, in a statement.

“He possessed a sharp wit that was quick with an Irish phrase in any situation. While we may have disagreed on many issues, I never doubted that he loved our city. We’ve lost a storied Denver public servant. Rest in peace, my friend.”

Gallagher gained a bachelor’s degree from Regis University in 1961, and a master’s degree from The Catholic University of America in 1967. A speaker, he guided speech, influence, and media for over four decades.
