Denroy Morgan’s Death after Battle with Brutal Disease

Veteran Reggae singer Denroy Morgan has sadly passed away at his home in Lawrenceville, Georgia at the age of 76. Details of Denroy Morgan’s cause of death were shared with fans on March 3, 2021.

Singer Mojo Morgan confirmed the heartbreaking news of his father’s death. “Daddy passed last night surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren,” Mojo said.

The Morgan Heritage family shared a statement, saying, “It is out of sincere love that we share that our beloved father and patriarch, The Honorable Bishop Ras Denroy Morgan has ascended.”

“Daddy has been our light, our source of love and joy all our lives. Our family thanks you in advance for your overwhelming love and support and we ask for your continued prayers as we go through this process.

“We also ask that you please respect our privacy during this time of healing. Thank You!” the statement read.

Morgan is survived by his wife Hyacinth Morgan, his 30 children, 104 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

What’s Denroy Morgan’s Cause of Death at 76?

Veteran reggae musician Denroy Morgan’s cause of death was reported as cancer. He died after losing the battle with cancer on 3 March 2022.

morgan was a Jamaican reggae artist, but left Jamaica at the age of 19 and traveled to the United States to become a musician.

The late artist was part of the formation of the Black Eagles, a New York City reggae band in the 1970s. Denroy’s children, encouraged by his success, have also taken on musical careers themselves including Gramps Morgan, Laza Morgan, and in family bands LMS and Morgan Heritage.

He had started in the 1970s and created the Black Eagles, with Devon “Igo Levi” Foster and Llewellyn “Jah T” Breadwood.

The band won the New York Reggae Music Festival in 1977, beginning Morgan’s rise to fame that continued into the early 1980s.

Denroy had his most successful release with “I’ll Do Anything For You” in 1981, which featured musical backing from the band and peaked at number nine on the American soul chart.

“I’ll Do Anything For You” peaked at number seven on the dance charts. All of these successes helped to launch his solo reggae career.

In March 2014, Morgan announced that he was working on, Half N Half, featuring cover versions of Bob Marley songs and excerpts from speeches by Haile Selassie. He also was working on an updated version of his memoirs, Confession Aloud at that time.

After the sad news was revealed, Denroy Morgan’s friends and fans reacted to the news and paid tribute to the legendary singer.

“r i p, the great Denroy Morgan. thanks for your excellence as an artist, milestone additions to Jamaica’s cultural imprint!- and for your always upfull, inspiring energy! condolences to family, friends, fans, colleague,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

Consulate General of Jamaica’s official Twitter account wrote: “CGNY extends its heartfelt condolences to the Morgan Family, who lost their patriarch, Mr. Denroy Morgan, yesterday. During this time The Consulate General reemphasizes the Morgan Family’s request for privacy, and sends them well wishes in their time of mourning.”
