Washington, D.C. meteorologist Doug Hill passed away on November 22, 2021, at the age of 71. Doug Hill’s cause of death is yet to be revealed.

Dough Hill was a retired Chief Meteorologist for WJLA-TV at Noon, 4, 5, and 6, until he retired on September 15, 2017. He was honored with a Washington Emmy Award for his services.

Hill was awarded the “Seal of Approval” from the American Meteorological Society. He has also been honored with a Washington Emmy Award for broadcast excellence.

The meteorologist enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for four years at Andrews Air Force Base. Hill served as a police officer for Prince George’s County for six years after leaving the military.

He began his meteorology career in Richmond, Virginia, and he got his first break at WWBT-TV as the weekend weatherman. Doug then moved on to Detroit for the next four and a half years.

The TV personality returned east to Washington, D.C., with CBS affiliate WUSA in 1984. Hill stayed at WUSA for 16 years until moving to WJLA.

Doug retired from WJLA-TV on September 15, 2017. He served as a radio personality on WGTS 91.9 FM, a Christian radio station.

Doug Hill’s Cause of Death Remains Secret

Meteorologist Doug Hill’s cause of death has not been announced after he died at his home in North Carolina surrounded by family on November 22. May he rest in peace.

WJLA-TV, the channel from which Doug Hill retired in 2017, revealed on Tuesday that he had died on Monday, describing Hill as “the best of the best.”

As the heartbreaking news circulated, friends and former colleagues shared touching tributes on Twitter.

A message shared on the 7News Twitter account read: “It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague Doug Hill. He will be missed dearly by those who knew him and watched his forecasts for decades. Our deepest sympathies to his wife Mary Ann and their family.”

“He was a warm and caring man and exactly the same person in ‘real life’ you saw on TV all those years. I’ve missed him since he retired. This hurts,” 7News Maryland bureau chief Brad Bell tweeted.

Reactions to Doug Hill’s Death

Alison Starling, a 7News anchor, wrote: “I am in shock over the loss of this wonderful man. Doug Hill was so many things. He was a talented meteorologist, the best of the best. He was a kind, funny family man deeply rooted in his faith. It was an honor to work with him, and Doug, we miss you so much already.”

Tom Roussey, a 7 News reporter, recalled how he went from watching the meteorologist on TV to becoming his friend and colleague.

“I watched Doug on the news as a kid & as an adult had the honor of calling him a coworker. He was as nice & genuine in person as on TV,” Roussey wrote. “He invited me once to hear him guest preach at Chesapeake Church, where he did an excellent job. We’ve lost a great man & a DC local news legend.”

7News meteorologist Brian van de Graaff posted a picture of him and Hill watching a baseball game. “I am forever grateful for his guidance and friendship and thankful for all of those years that I got to work alongside him,” he captioned the pic.

“There is not a greater compliment than when a person says I did or said something that reminded them of Doug,” he added.

“He was such a giving and thoughtful friend. RIP Doug. If heaven needs a meteorologist, then they just got the best one,” fellow 7News anchor Jonathan Elias posted.

7News anchor Michelle Marsh posted a video of Doug Hill sitting beside her in the studio as Hill held a stuffed groundhog—and almost fell off his chair.

She wrote: “This video is from 2017,” she said. “Doug had a wild sense of humor. He was unpredictable and fun to work with… keeping us all on our toes.… like this moment!”
