‘Solo Leveling’ Artist DUBU’s Cause of Death Revealed


Manhwa fans have started asking about the artist of Korean webtoon ‘Solo Leveling’, DUBU’s cause of death since he reportedly passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the age of 40.

The heartbreaking news of the artist’s death was announced and confirmed by REDICE Studio, a webtoon adaptation company where Dubu worked as CEO. The company shared an obituary of DUBU on its website and social media n Monday, July 25, 2022.

The translated statement reads, “Mr. Jang had been struggling with a health condition for a long time, and he passed away from cerebral hemorrhage stemming from his condition,” the studio wrote in Korean.

A private funeral service for DUBU, real name Jang Su-rak, was held at his mother’s home which his family members and old friends followed.

REDICE Studio additionally appreciated DUBU’s readers who have offered love and support for Solo Leveling. The company said, “We ask that everyone prays for Mr. Jang to rest in a better place. The staff of Solo Leveling and all of us at REDICE Studio pray for Mr. Jang, who always held a deep love for his work and the readers.”

Dubu started his career performing in a mixture of various manga and manhwa, including the manga adaptation of Space Dandy and the initial series Beautiful Legends. The artist’s projects were often just credited to his studio, Redice.

Dubu’s most significant hit, nevertheless, arrived in 2018, when he began drawing the webtoon adaptation of writer Chu-gong’s web book series, Solo Leveling.
