We are saddened to announce the heartbreaking news of Duggie Brown’s death on August 16, 2022, at the age of 82. He was an English comedian and actor who was well-known for his role in Granada Television’s popular series The Comedians.
He was born on August 7, 1940, in Rotherham, West Riding of Yorkshire, England. His original name is Barry Dudley. Brown was inducted into the Grand Order of Water Rats eventually succeeding to the position of “King Rat” in 2020.
He rose to fame after playing in Ken Loach’s 1969 film Kes which was made based on Barry Hines’ novel and became one of the most well-known comedians of his generation. He also appeared in ground-breaking comedy programs “The Comedians“, and “The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club“.

Duggie most recently appeared on-screen in Corrie. He made played the role of Ted Spear for a short period in the ITV soap and the character was knocked over on New Year’s Day in a huge storyline for Faye Windass and Emma Brooker as learner driver Faye drove them back from a New Year’s Eve party.
After playing in Corrie, in 1977, he appeared in Coronation Street as George Freeman, and again in 2004, this time playing Honor Blackman’s husband Bernie. His other movies that you may see or know are included Brookside, The Final Cut, Heartbeat, Doctors, and Still Open All Hours.
Despite comedy movies, Duggie played in a thriller that was made based on the life of serial killer John George Haigh. The movie is A Is For Acid which he starred alongside Martin Clunes and Keeley Hawes in 2002.
It was for the Northern Broadsides Theatre Company’s national tour when he played the Fool in Shakespeare’s King Lear and starred in We Are Three Sisters based on Anton Chekhov’s novel exploring the lives of the Bronte sisters.

People Mourn Over Duggie Brown’s Death
His agent, named Lee Morgan confirmed the sad news of Duggie Brown’s death. He said in a statement: “It is with a heavy heart I share the news the very talented Comedian & Actor Duggie Brown passed away this morning with his wife Jackie by his side.”

He paid tribute to this talented comedian who he worked with for years and said: “What an honor it was to work with Duggie. A born entertainer who loved his profession. RIP Duggie Brown. We love & salute you.”

He celebrated the 40-year anniversary of the hit show The Comedians after being as himself in a live show. Also, in recent years he took on the role of Mr. Boo in Jim Cartwright’s comedic play The Rise And Fall Of Little Voice.

Neil Hurst shared about Duggie Brown’s death on his social media: “Beyond sad to hear that my old pal Duggie Brown has passed away. One of my very first telly jobs was with Duggie back in 1997 and I was lucky to appear in so many shows with him since. Genuinely one of the nicest and funniest guys in the business. Sad day.”
