A Florida journalist Dylan Lyons was killed Wednesday in a string of shootings that led to the arrest of a 19-year-old suspect. May he rest in peace.
The 9-year-old girl’s mother and a photojournalist were injured in the tragic shooting in Pine Hills, a subdivision just northwest of Orlando, Florida.
“Once they did detain him, homicide detectives who were familiar with him from the previous case said, ‘Yeah, that’s our same guy from the earlier homicide,'” Orange County Sheriff John Mina said.

Around 4 p.m., the suspect returned to the scene and approached a Spectrum News 13 vehicle as a news team reported on the shooting earlier that morning, Mina said.
The gunman opened fire while Dylan and Walden were in or near the vehicle, then walked to a nearby house, where he shot a 9-year-old girl and her mother, witnesses said.
Dylan and the 9-year-old girl died from their injuries. Walden and the mother were hospitalized Wednesday in critical condition.
Family members and colleagues at the Orlando-based outlet remembered Dylan, who was shot while working Wednesday, as a passionate TV journalist who served his community.
The Orlando news station said Thursday morning: “Following the shooting death of one of our colleagues and the wounding of another, Spectrum News 13 has now identified the reporter who lost his life as Dylan Lyons.”

Touching tributes from loved ones and colleagues poured in on social media. Lyons was “very close” to his mother and family, and “loved his girlfriend dearly,” according to his obituary.

“He took his job very seriously. He loved his career. He loved what he did. He loved the community, telling the stories of people, reporting on the news, and he was just passionate about what he did,” Josh Miller, a Spectrum Sports 360 reporter, said in a Spectrum News 13 obituary.
“When he was out of the news station, he was still talking about how much he wanted to succeed at his job, talking about how much he loved Orlando,” Miller added.
“The amount of people that will miss him, I’m sure, I can’t even come to fathom how many,” Miller said.
Casey Lynn, a woman identifying herself as Lyons’ fiancée, wrote: “the love of my life was murdered” in a devastating Twitter post.
Lyons’s Twitter account had previously linked to Casey Lynn’s account with heart emojis. “I will never be the same person ever again,” Casey wrote on Twitter.
