Economist and President of Afi, Emilio Ontiveros Passed Away

It’s with profound sadness and a heavy heart we inform you that one of the most prestigious economists in our country and the world left us behind on August 1, 2022. Emilio Ontiveros passed away at the age of 74.

Emilio Ontiveros was known among people because of being the founder and president of International Financial Analysts (Afi). May he rest in peace.

He was born in 1948 in Ciudad Real. Emilio Ontiveros graduated in Economics from the Autonomous University of Madrid and worked as a Professor Emeritus of Economics at that university, where he also served as vice-rector for four years.

In his experience as a university professor, he was also part and a member of foreign universities like Harvard, where he was a member of the Advanced Research Group in International Economics in 2005.

It was in 1987 when Ontiveros was founded by International Financial Analysts (Afi), a company committed to consulting and independent training in the field of economics, finance, and technology, and Afi School of Finance.

Beyond the academic field and being a professor, for more than seven years, the economist worked in national industrial companies before starting his career as a university professor. So, he had experiences too.

In addition, we can remember him as a member of the Board of Directors of Iberdrola Spain between 2014 to 2022, and about almost two years ago, he was selected a member of the Advisory Board of Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transformation in July 2020.

Author of several books and numerous articles and collaborations in specialized magazines on economics and finance, among his works was a new era. The great challenges of the XXI century (2012), The smart saver (2014), Data economy. Wealth 4.0. (2016) or Excesses (2019), among others.

The Economics collection of H.Blume Ediciones was directed by Emilio Ontiveros and also he was the director of the Revista Economistas (Colegio Economistas Madrid) from its foundation in 1983 until December 2011, among other publications.

It has been reported to us that Emilio Ontiveros passed away on Monday at the age of 74, when he was in Madrid, and there is no specific information about the reason behind his death.

Also, he participated in works such as the prologue of Thomas Piketty’s book ‘El capital del Siglo XXI’ (Editorial RBA, 2015) by international economists, and his latest book in 2019 was ‘Excesses. Threats to global prosperity’ (Planeta).
