Story behind Drummer Eric Cougrand’s Cause of Death at 58

Eric Cougrand, the drummer for Smashing Burritos, sadly passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022, at the age of 58. Eric Cougrand’s cause of death was announced.

Cougrand died of a suspected heart attack after the drummer collapsed on stage during a Smashing Burritos performance at the Terrasse de Marseillette in France.

Eric Cougrand’s death was confirmed by his band just hours after Eric collapsed on stage. In a statement shared on Smashing Burritos’ Facebook page, the band announced, “Yesterday in Marseillette, in the middle of the second set, after a great solo, Eric collapsed on his drums.”

The band added: “neither the people present nor the firefighters nor the samu could revive him. RIP my mate, we miss you so much. You should already jam with Jerry Garcia and Duane Alman.”

According to local outlet Midi Libre, the band had been performing for a small crowd of about 40 people. It was in the middle of the second set at around 11:30 p.m. local time that Eric suddenly collapsed on stage.

Concertgoers rushed to his aid and began to provide first aid. They rushed to retrieve a defibrillator, but unfortunatly the device was not working.

When responders arrived at the scene, they continued life-saving measures, but they were not able to resuscitate Cougrand, who was pronounced dead.

Sources believe that Cougrand, who had a history of heart disease, suffered a heart attack on stage. He is survived by a 12-year-old daughter.

Eric Cougrand’s Cause of Death Relates to Heart Attack

Rock drummer Eric Cougrand’s cause of death is probably related to a heart attack. He passed away in the middle of a concert at the Terrasse de Marseillette in France.

As news of his death spread, many in the music industry took to social media to pay touching tribute to the late drummer.

On Facebook, the Troc venue wrote: “Our buddy Eric Cougrand joined Jerry Garcia Friday night in the middle of the Smashing Burritos concert right after his drum solo.

“Eric was a friend from the early hours of Tea-Troc. He’d come to perform with his then band, Chicken Skin, at the 1981 Music Festival, treating the entire neighborhood’s finest from the Grateful Dead. Having a great time!

The Troc venue remembered Eric as “a drummer but also a great bass player. To those musical qualities, he added a real graphic designer talent.”

“Thus we owe him one of the first business cards of the Thé-Troc and he always took pleasure in making the posters Ferid imagined for his showcase.

“He never failed to visit us when he passed through Paris, sometimes with hints of the underground music scene, that he had the pleasure of introducing himself to the delights of Thé-Troc,” the Troc venue added.

Richard Faucheraux wrote, “RIP. Eric Cougrand. Died suddenly behind his drums at the end of a concert Friday night. There were no recall. I’m so happy to see you in the future.”

Cougrand’s funeral took place on November 10, 2022. Following the service, Smashing Burritos thanked “everyone who sent us a message.” They announced that the band will resume after a short break. “our music will continue, rich with the impression it has left.”
