Radio legend Todd Hillier who was better known by his on-air name Fez Marie Whatley died Friday night of heart failure at 57. Fez Whatley’s obituary and funeral arrangements have not been officially released.

American comedian and former radio producer gained fame as the co-host of The Ron and Fez Show with radio personality and comedian Ron Bennington from 1998 to 2015.

Whatley, who was born on March 31, 1964, originally became famous after becoming a producer and contributor for the popular radio program The Ron and Ron Show. The show was canceled for low ratings following the departure of Ron Diaz.

The legendary comedian then cooperated with Ron Bennington to create The Ron and Fez Show again on a small Daytona Beach radio station. They subsequently created a show titled Ron and Fez Dot Com, and they moved to overnights on WNEW in New York City.

Ron and Fez’s star graduated from Pinellas Park High School in Pinellas Park, Florida, in 1982. He received a publication award from the International Thespian Society.

After years of struggling with his sexual identity, Fez Whatley came out as gay on February 24, 2012. The announcement came after Fez played a gay character on the air for more than 20 years. Fez chose to come out on the one-year anniversary of his father’s death.

In an interview with The Interrobang.com, Todd Hillier discussed his coming out process. “Coming to this realization was devastating. After all those years of denying it, it was true. Fez Whatley was no longer a character that I played on the air.”

He continued: “He was me. And now it wasn’t funny anymore. I was now everything that I had joked about. I got depressed…I couldn’t make myself be Fez Whatley anymore. I was terrified about being really gay.”

“We are devastated, but we will always remember the laughter through our tears.  Our thoughts are with his family, who loved him the most, and with the people who knew him as a voice on the radio. #fezwhatley,” Bennington added.

Eddie Trunk wrote on Twitter: “Just hearing Fez Whatley passed away. Fez was part of Ron & Fez show for many years. We worked together both at WNEW in NYC & @SIRIUSXM. Great guy, great radio personality. Condolences to the @BenningtonShow family & Fez’s family, fans & friends. #RIPFez.”

One fan tweeted: “R.I.P. Fez Whatley. One of the funniest and nicest guys I’ve ever met. Was on Ron and Fez about 12 years, and Fez couldn’t have been a sweeter person. Rest easy, Fezzy.”
