The tragic story behind Saint Louis Billikens men’s basketball team coach Ford Stuen’s cause of death was revealed after he passed away on Tuesday morning (May 11) at the young age of 29. Rest in peace.
5 On Your Side‘s Frank Cusumano confirmed the heartbreaking news of assistant coach Ford Stuen while The Billiken basketball family is mourning the loss of one of their beloved coaches.

Graduating from Oklahoma State in 2016, Stuen starred for four years at Oklahoma State under Travis Ford, his uncle, and now current SLU basketball head coach.
Ford Stuen is survived by his wife, Courtney, and a daughter, Lucy. The father left the family while they are expecting another baby in August.
Stuen was a growing star in basketball coaching and at the center of attention at the national level. He was elected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ 30 under 30 lists of the best coaches under 30 years old across college basketball in his first year as an assistant at SLU.

Ford Stuen’s Cause of Death after Hospitalization Reported as Infection
Ford Stuen was suffering from pain in his stomach area, late in the Billikens’ 2020-2021 season.
He was reportedly diagnosed with an infection, and the illness finally became Ford Stuen’s cause of death, even after antibiotics and a medically-induced coma; He was in the hospital due to his bad health condition since Easter.
His condition was previously described as “serious health complications.”
Frank wrote on Twitter, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the @SaintLouisMBB. 29-year-old assistant coach Ford Stuen has passed away. He was hospitalized since Easter with an infection. He was a wonderful young man who was a rising star in the coaching world. Ford leaves behind a wife and child.”

Ford Stuen was a native of Henderson, Kentucky, who played in high school at Henderson County before moving to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
He was the nephew of Head Coach Travis Ford.
He was a first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and was a 46.2% shooter in 27 games for the Cowboys when e was playing in Oklahoma State; Ford led Oklahoma State to the NCAA Tournament three times throughout his playing career.

Ford Stuen’s Illness
Ford Stuen is recovering from an undisclosed illness, it was what the school’s athletic department claimed Thursday.
Stuen’s wife opened up in an Instagram post about the illness, had him placed on a ventilator last week after what Courtney explained were “serious health complications.”
“Ford is getting better. inch by inch, we’re celebrating the small wins that each day brings. if you know ford, you know he is a fighter who shows up…i will continue to show up for him every day for the rest of our lives and beyond,” she captioned.
