American former professional basketball player Galen Young’s cause of death is unknown after social media started to release rumors of his death at the young age of 45.
Social media users are posting their tributes for coach Galen Young after the school’s athletic department confirmed the heartbreaking death news of Charlotte 49ers basketball star.
Born on October 16, 1975, in Memphis, Tennessee, Galen Young played two years of Division I college basketball for the University of North Carolina at Charlotte before kicking off a career in the Continental Basketball Association.

After attending Hillcrest High School, where Galen played basketball under coach John Anderson, he spent between 1994 and 1996 at Northwest Mississippi Community College and then transferred to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, starting to play for the 49ers in 1997.

While many fans expressed their sadness by sharing their tributes along with the former basketball player on social media, no one says anything about Galen Young’s cause of death.
Someone wrote, “Hearing some absolutely devastating news that Galen Young has passed away. He was an absolute star on some our best @CharlotteMBB teams and an all around great person. Just heartbreaking….. his family and children are in our thoughts.”
Another said, “Truly saddens me to hear about the passing of Coach Galen Young. A great coach even better person. Always was willing to talk and offer guidance to younger coaches and players. Condolences to his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys!”

Also, Galen’s teammate, another former professional basketball player, Josh Pace, tweeted, “RIH Galen YoungFolded handsRaising hands. One of the best people and teammates I have had on the professional basketball level. Going to miss you G.”
Scott Flower released a statement on Twitter, saying, “So sorry to say that former Charlotte 49ers basketball standout Galen Young has died, according to the school’s athletic department. He was 45 and was the MVP of the 1999 C-USA conference tourney, which the 49ers won on their way to the NCAAs.”

Galen was MVP of the Conference USA men’s basketball tournament In 1999 when the 49ers won the C-USA title. The star was additionally a first-team all-Conference USA selection that year with averaged 14.7 points and 7.2 rebounds for a Charlotte team that won 23 games.
As a second-round draft pick of the Milwaukee Bucks, he never was part of an NBA team; but Young played for many years and in eight different countries. He always was famous for his athleticism and superb defense.
Young had started a college basketball coaching career in recent years. In September 2020, he was announced as a new assistant coach for Rockhurst University.

Good to know, Young became an assistant coach for the Lane College men’s basketball team in 2016 and spent five golden seasons with the Dragons as an assistant, according to a Rockhurst press.
