Geechy Guy’s cause of death has been confirmed as natural while his housemate confirmed that the legendary comedian died Thursday (September 7, 2023) at his Las Vegas home.
His housemate and landlord, Jerry Jones, a Vegas entertainment pro as founder of Fifth Avenue vocal group, announced Guy’s death.
Michael Paul Cathers was born on May 12, 1964, in Rochester, Michigan. Guy began his career as a magician at age 6, followed by juggling and unicycling until taking up comedy at the age of 19.

He began his professional career in the Detroit market, working in comedy clubs and appearing on local comedy talk shows, such as “Some Semblance of Sanity” with comedian Gary Thison.
Cathers and Thison had reunited and were working on a number of comedy projects.
In his stand-up act, Guy tossed what he called “joke grenades.” “You’ll get these later,” the gangly comic often said.
Among his grenades: “My doctor tells me I’m a kleptomaniac, so I’ve been taking a lot of stuff for it.” And, “I couldn’t keep my eyes off the woman at the construction site. She was riveting.”

Geechy Guy’s Cause of Death released
Geechy Guy’s cause of death is not related to foul play or unusual circumstances. His death was confirmed by his housemate and landlord, Jerry Jones.
Guy was found unresponsive in his bedroom at about 12:30 p.m. on September 7, 2023, during a wellness check by the Metropolitan Police Department and pronounced dead on the scene.
“He looked like he was just fast asleep. There wasn’t anything unusual, he just looked peaceful, with the covers over his shoulders,” Jones said Thursday afternoon.

“He had a terrible sleep schedule, and would sleep 14 or 15 hours straight. For him to be in his room for that long wasn’t anything surprising.”
Guy was a contestant on Star Search during the 1990–1991 season; he defeated, among others, Ray Romano in the competition.
On January 7, 2011, the talrnted comedian appeared on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Previously, Guy had appeared three times on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
He made his most recent appearance on television as a contestant on the 6th season of America’s Got Talent. Cathers reached the top 48 and was X’ed by Piers Morgan.
Geechy Guy was eliminated from the show. Guy was the opening act on Ron White‘s Comedy Salute to the Troops 2014, initially aired on March of that year.
Cathers appeared at the 2011 NASCAR Newlyweds trivia game during Champions Week for a brief act before the drivers arrived.
Guy held a Guinness World Record for most jokes told in an hour, at 676.
