Death of Two Gogglebox’s Star in Same Week: GOODBYE Andy and Mary
Unfortunately, the star of Gogglebox passed away a week ago. Mary Cook’s cause of death is not revealed, but it is reported that she died at the hospital. The Gogglebox team confirmed this heartbreaking news on Twitter.
Bristolians Mary and Marina met at St Monica Trust retirement village almost ten years ago and had been friends since then. Mary and Marina were sadly didn’t take part in Gogglebox since the pandemic due to the filming crew being unable to go into their retirement village for health purposes but returned to the screens in early 2021. The two celebrated with a bottle of champagne to admire being back.
The show’s creator, Tania Alexandra, said at that time: “We didn’t want them to put at any risk, so we should stop filming with them altogether. The ladies are safe and well looked after but often tell us they dearly miss the crews and the fun they have during filming each week.”
Mary Cook’s cause of death is not clear after she reportedly died at the hospital. Mary Cook’s death came a few weeks after Gogglebox co-star Pete McGarry died from cancer at home in Essex.
Mary and Marina previously explained how they ended up starring on Gogglebox together in an interview with St Monica’s Trust, saying they were spotted for the show while out shopping together.
Marina said: “I went across to catch the bus down to Asda, and this young girl comes up to me and says, ‘Do you ever watch Gogglebox?’ I said, ‘Well, I have done,’ and she said, ‘Do you want to be on it?’ I thought, ‘I’m game for a laugh, like.’ “
