Unfortunately, the former Detroit Lions lineman passed away. The former offensive linemen Hessley‘s cause of death is revealed. It is reported that Hempstead suffered a heart attack.
The seventh-round pick by the Lions in the 1995 NFL draft out of Kansas, Hessley Hempstead played all three of his NFL seasons in Detroit. He played in 31 games between 1995-1997, starting one in his final season.
Hessley Hempstead spent three seasons with the Lions before suffering a knee injury in 1995, a seventh-round draft pick by the Lions out of Kansas.
After his on-field season with the Lions ended, he was hired in 2000 by the team as a scout. After a year with the Lions, Hessley Hempstead was hired by the Washington Football Team in a personnel position.

Hessley Hempstead’s death was confirmed by the NFL Players Association‘s former players’ Twitter account on Monday, June 14.
The group tweeted: “We are saddened to learn of the passing of Hess Hempstead. After retiring from the Detroit Lions, he was a fixture at events and Charlotte Chapter activities, always with a smile and willingness to help his #NFLPAFraternity and community. He will be missed by all who knew him.”
Following the tragic news, several fans, friends, and supporters reacted and stated their condolences on social media websites.
An online user tweeted: “Hessley & i were the best of friends in elementary school. I cried like a baby when he moved to Ca. When we were in 1st grd he was kidnapped by a man who knew his mom wkd at the bank.Crazy. Det. Lions off lineman Hessley Hempstead dead at 49.”
Upland High School wrote on Twitter: “Class of 1990 Hessley Hempstead passed away Friday. Hessley was a man of inspiration, kindness and love. After graduating from Upland High, he attended Kansas and went on to play in the NFL for the Detroit Lions. Our love and prayers go out to the Hempstead family and friends.”
