With deepest sadness, we inform you of iconic Mexican singer, actress, and politician Irma Serrano’s death on March 1, 2023. Irma Serrano’s cause of death was disclosed after her death at 89.
The Mexican news station Foro TV reported that the actress suffered a fatal heart attack on Wednesday morning in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico.
The National Association of Interpreters of Mexico revealed Serrano’s death on Twitter, writing in Spanish: “@ANDIMexico announces the sensitive death of interpreter partner Irma Serrano.

“We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends,” the statement read.
Irma Consuelo Cielo Serrano Castro was born on December 9, 1933, in Comitán, Chiapas, Mexico. Irma, who also went by the nickname La Tigresa, worked as an actress and singer in her native country for over five decades.
She stood out for her inimitable vocals in hits like Cancion De Un Preso and El Amora De La Paloma. Irma acted in several films such as La Tigersa, Lola La Trailera, and La Venganza de Gabino Barrera.
In the 1990s, Serrano ventured into politics and occupied a seat in the Mexican Senate. It was rumored that Serrano and president Gustavo Díaz Ordaz had a short-lived romantic relationship.
Serrano confirmed their romantic affair in her book A Calzón Amarrado. In 1994, she ran for Senator from her home state of Chiapas and won.
On March 25, 2009, the actress was arrested in her home State of Chiapas and taken into custody by Mexico City’s federal.

A fatal heart attack was reported as Irma Serrano’s cause of death at the age of 89. The actress’s death was announced by the Mexican news station Foro TV.
Her professional career began as a singer when she was in her late 20s. Irma moved into acting with the movie Santo vs. the Zombies, featuring famed Mexican wrestler El Santo.
In 1963 Serrano appeared as Rosa in the film Tiburoneros about a fisherman in Tabasco who romances a local girl before returning to Mexico City.

In 1977, she partnered with actor, writer, producer, and director Alejandro Jodorowsky to perform the stage play Lucrecia Borgia.
Other stage plays starring by Irma in the Teatro Fru Frú were Oh … Calcutta (1977), A Lady Without Camelias (1977), Yocasta Reina (1978), The Cross-legged War (1979), and A calzón amarrado (1980).
In addition to starring in these works, she served as co-producer, co-director, and co-author of the arguments, along with the actor, director, and producer Pablo Leder.
Her last theatrical projects were The Two Emanuele, alongside Isela Vega and represented in the Million Dollar Theater of Los Angeles, and The Well of Solitude (1985).
After the sad news of Irma Serrano’s death was revealed, his friends and fans quickly flooded social media with tribute messages. Many fans also took to Twitter to pay touching tributes to him.
“Doña Irma Serrano has passed away, a frontal woman who never made herself small when the powers that be wanted to destroy and ridicule her,” Abraham Mendieta wrote.
Gaby Meza tweeted: “Unfortunately, the sensitive death of the Mexican actress and singer, #IrmaSerrano ‘La Tigresa’ at the age of 89 has been confirmed. Recognized for participating in multiple movies in the 60’s and 70’s, television shows, plays.”
