Official sources announced an assistant coach and ex-player with CF Montreal Jason Di Tullio’s cancer led to the legend’s passing on Tursday (July 28, 2022) at the age of 38.

The MLS club confirmed the tragic death news on Friday in a statement shared by CF Montréal president and CEO Gabriel Gervais; the statement read, “It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of our colleague, teammate, and friend, who left us far too soon. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”

Gabriel Gervais came to add, “Jason was a great player and a great man. His energy was ever-present until his final moments. He himself symbolically compared his battle to a soccer game. Jason was extremely brave and fought until the end. He will forever be remembered in our minds and the memory of the club as an iconic player and mentor.”

The beloved star was born in Montréal, Di Tullio proved himself as an important club figure as a player and a coach. He kicked off his pro career with the Montréal impact in 2002 while the team competed in USL. Jason starred 81 times for the club, beginning 60 times while scoring one goal and recording four assists in 5,611 total minutes.

Di Tullio appeared on the pitch for the U-20 Canada national team during the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championships, assisting his country to achieve the second round for just the second time in program history.

Jason Di Tullio’s Cancer Became His Cause of Death

Celebrities’ death news always breaks many hearts, but fans kindly remember memories, and their idols are alive in their hearts even after death. Although there is no report about how Di Tullio’s cancer did cause his death at this time, some unconfirmed sources spread some rumors.

Tullio was suffering from Stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer since 2021, a fatal form of cancer with a too low survival rate and no learned cure. He experienced several surgeries and radiation and chemotherapy treatment.

When Di Tullio was a coach, he performed as an assistant coach with the club’s first team from 2015-17 and then again starting in 2021. He additioally served as an academy head coach from 2011-15 and then from 2019-21.

Ex-team captain Patrice Bernier announced in a social media post, “Rest in peace Jason. My heart is heavy this morning. My condolences to his family! Forever in our thoughts my brother Impact.”

An ex-Canadian youth international, Di Tullio symbolized Canada at the 2001 Francophone Games in Ottawa/Hull and at the 2003 FIFA U-20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

He worked as an assistant coach with the Canadian under-17, under-20, and under-23 teams, most recently serving with head coach Mauro Biello in men’s Olympic qualifying in March 2021.

FC Montreal reported that in according to Di Tullio’s final wishes, a personal funeral ceremony will be held.
