Actor Jean Lapointe’s Death Following Health Complications
Quebec actor, songwriter, and former Canadian senator Jean Lapointe passed away at the age of 86. Jean Lapointe’s cause of death was disclosed on November 18, 2022.
The Jean Lapointe Foundation announced that Lapointe died at Maison St-Raphaël, surrounded by his family and loves ones, following health complications.
Jean Lapointe was born on December 6, 1935. He was known to generations of Quebecers as an entertainer whose talents extended to singing and stand-up comedy.
He began his stage career as part of the duo Les Jérolas with Jérôme Lemay, performing in such shows as The Ed Sullivan Show and at the Olympia in Paris.
In n 1974, the star launched his solo career and performed on stage, in albums, and in two feature films. Most of his albums have been produced by Yves Lapierre
Lapointe may be remembered best for his portrayal of Quebec premier Maurice Duplessis in the TV series of the same name.
He was also a social activist who campaigned against drug abuse and alcoholism through his Jean Lapointe Foundation.
However, Lapointe’s battle with alcohol addiction and his founding of the Maison Jean Lapointe rehabilitation center may be his most enduring legacy.
The Foundation Jean Lapointe was created soon after as a means to help and support the operations of the Centre.
Lapointe was named an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1984. In n 2001, he was named to the Senate by Jean Chrétien where he sat as a Liberal until reaching the mandatory retirement at 75.
In 2006, he was made an officer of the National Order of Quebec. Lapointe was a life member of the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and also a member of the Stamp Advisory Committee of Canada Post.
In 2005, he was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Francophone SOCAN Awards took place in Montreal.

Jean Lapointe’s cause of death was announced as health complications. The talented actor, singer, and comedian died at Maison St-Raphaël, surrounded by his family.
Jean Lapointe is survived by his wife, Mercédès, seven children Marie-Josée, Maryse, Danielle, Michelle, Catherine, Jean-Marie, and Anne Elizabeth, two grandchildren and his sisters Huguette and Suzanne.
Lapointe’s passing has prompted a succession of touching tributes from a number of personalities from different backgrounds. Many fans also took to Twitter to share their condolences.
Mat Vaillancourt tweeted: “For those who don’t know him. Jean Lapointe (he was a federal senator at one point) was a widely respected actor/comedian in French Canada. But he was also someone who did incredible work with some charitable causes, like for helping people with drinking and drug problems.”
