What’s behind Player Jessie Lemonier’s Unexpected Death at 25?

Former NFL player Jessie Lemonier’s cause of death has remained mysterious as his family has not released a statement surrounding the unexpected death of Lemonier.

The news of Jessie Lemonier’s death broke on Thursday. The Lions released a statement, saying that they were “shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier.

“Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Jessie Nathaniel Lemonier was born on January 31, 1997, in Hialeah, Florida. He played for the Detroit Lions, the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Birmingham Stallions of the United States Football League (USFL).

In 2020, Lemonier was signed by the Chargers as an undrafted free agent following his college football career with the Liberty Flames. Following the 2020 NFL Draft, he signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent on April 26, 2020.

The player was promoted to the active roster on September 26, 2020, and waived on October 24, 2020. He re-signed to the practice squad four days later.

Lemonier was promoted back to the active roster on November 7, waived on November 28, and re-signed to the practice squad four days later.

He was elevated to the active roster on December 17, 2022, for the team’s week 15 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He reverted back to the practice squad after the game.

On December 26, 2020, he was signed to the active roster. Lemonier was waived by the Chargers on August 31, 2021. On September 2, 2021, he was signed to the Detroit Lions practice squad.

The young star was promoted to the active roster in October 2021 and waived in May 2022. On May 17, 2022, he was claimed off waivers by the Arizona Cardinals and released on August 17, 2022.

Jessie was selected by the Arlington Renegades in the 2023 XFL Draft, but he signed with the Houston Gamblers of the USFL in December 2022.

Jessie Lemonier’s Cause of Death Remains Untold

It was reported that the former NFL linebacker sadly passed away on January 26, 2023, and his death was confirmed by the Lions. Jessie Lemonier’s cause of death has not been disclosed at this time.

Lemonier’s agent, Drew Smith of DEC Management, said that Lemonier’s girlfriend is expecting a child with the late NFL player. It was reported that the former NFL linebacker passed away at the age of 25.

Jessie Lemonier’s brother Corey Lemonier played linebacker in the NFL. Corey has yet to make a public comment regarding the unexpected death of his younger brother.

Friends and former teammates have taken to social media to honor the late athlete.

The official Los Angeles Chargers Twitter shared out a statement that reads, “gone too soon. our hearts are with jessie’s family, friends and loved ones.”

Below the statement are two pictures side by side, on the left, the photo reads In Memoriam Jessie Lemonier 1997-2023. On the right is a picture of the late linebacker.

One fan wrote, “So sad to hear about the passing of former Liberty standout Jessie Lemonier. Had a large part in our first bowl win vs. Georgia Southern and helping to build this football program. Praying for his family and friends.”

Another fan tweeted, “Jessie Lemonier, one of the greatest ever to wear the Red, White, and Navy. Forever a Flame. We’ll miss you.”

One of Jessie Lemonier’s roommates at Liberty University, Zac Zehnder, shared kind words after it was reported the former linebacker passed away.

Zehnder wrote, “Jessie Lemonier was one of my roommates at Liberty. Easily one of the most selfless people I have ever gotten to spend time with and he cooked a mean steak. Rest In Peace.”

Defensive end Breiden Fehoko for the Los Angeles Chargers took to social media to share a touching post about his former teammate the late Jessie Lemonier.

He said, “My brother man. We came in to the league together had to battle through everything rookie year to get where we are. You were always filled with life bro. I LOVE YOU BRO! Please check up on your people. PLEASE.” Below the heartfelt post is four photos of the two together.
