Comedian Jethro Dies at 73 after Battling Brutal Disease

Jethro, real name Geoffrey Rowe, passed away yesterday, management said. Jethro’s cause of death was revealed after his death on December 14, 2021.
He was fully vaccinated and had had his booster jab before contracting the virus. The comic contracted the virus just ten days ago and was in the hospital for seven days before he died.
The comedian’s death was revealed on his public Facebook page, where many fans paid touching tributes. The post reads: “It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of the well-known and popular Cornish comedian Jethro.”

“Jethro leaves behind his life partner Jennie, sons Jesse and Lanyon, stepdaughter Sarah, daughter-in-law Stacey and of course his much-loved grandchildren.
“We ask that you respect our privacy at this very sad time and give us all time to grieve,” the statement continued.
“We will continue to support each other in the knowledge that our lives will never be the same without him.”
Manager John Miles said Jethro had battled Hodgkin Lymphoma two years ago. He added that Mr. Rowe was in remission and was otherwise in good health when he caught the virus.
Miles said: “They did all they could do – it was just so aggressive and fast.”
Mr. Miles paid tribute to his friend of more than 40 years said Jethro brought a lot of joy to millions of people. “He was a lovely guy, a very kind guy and very funny. At least he brought a lot of enjoyment to many people,” he said.

Jethro’s cause of death was announced by his family. The comedian died after contracting Covid-19 on December 14.
Geoffrey Rowe was born in St Buryan, Cornwall, England, on March 8, 1948. He joined the local operatic society in St Just as a bass singer. He then started touring pubs and clubs in Cornwall, singing traditional songs and developing his comedy act.
Rowe also played rugby in over 100 matches for Penzance & Newlyn RFC, a team that later became the Cornish Pirates. His stage name “Jethro” came from his real name, Geoff Rowe, influenced by the character of Jethro in The Beverly Hillbillies.

After Rowe’s popularity grew in Cornwall and Devon, he made his first national television performance on the Des O’Connor Show in 1990.
The comedian also appeared on Jim Davidson’s programs. Jethro produced his first video, A Portion of Jethro, in 1993, followed by several others.
Rowe claimed that, during the height of his popularity, he sold some 250,000 theatre seats a year. He appeared in a Royal Variety Performance in 2001.
He announced that he was retiring from public performances in February 2020. The final shows were later postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Comedian Jim Davidson shared a video tribute to the late comedian this morning. Jethro said: “We’re all broken-hearted. It is devastating. It’s an understatement to say we’re broken-hearted.”
“We’re all in shock. These things happen so quickly. He was a great comedian, Jethro. He just liked to tell jokes – his timing was immaculate.”
