Widow of Hall of Famer Gil, Joan Hodges Passed Away at 95

Sadly, we have learned about the death of the widow of Manager Gil Hodges at the age of 95. Joan Hodges passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, and left her family and loved ones, heartbroken. May she rest in peace.

Gil Hodges was inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame in July. He had a fruitful life which hit 370 home runs in a big league career spent mostly with the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. after that, Gil managed the 1969 Miracle Mets to the franchise’s first title.

Sandy Alderson who was the Mets president said in a statement: “We are thankful that Joan was able to see Gil inducted into the Hall of Fame in July. That meant so much to her and the entire Mets and Hodges family. “

She added: “She was a true baseball fan and still followed her two favorite teams, the Mets and Dodgers. We send our condolences to her daughters, Irene and Cindy, her son Gil Jr. and the rest of the Hodges family.”

On July 24, Irene Hodges who is Gil and Joan’s daughter talked about her mother at the induction in Cooperstown on her father’s behalf. She said that on that day, she was especially happy for my mother.

Irene added: “When the call came from the Hall of Fame. I began sobbing probably as much as I did when I lost my father. I was so beyond happy for him and thrilled that my Mom at 95 would be able to hear this news.”

Joan lived in the Brooklyn home in which she and Gil lived and raised their children. The couple had three children, in addition to Irene, she is survived by a son, Gil Jr., and another daughter Cindy.
