The founding artist of Milestone’s Static, John Paul Leon’s cause of death at 49, is unknown at this time. His death news was confirmed on Sunday, May 2, by DC Senior Editor Chris Conroy. RIP.
Born on April 26, 1972, John Paul Leon initially began operating within the world of illustration at 16, with black-and-white illustrations in Dragon and Dungeon magazines.
He was a beloved comics creator, noted for his work on titles like Static, Earth X, and Batman: Creature of the Night.

Comic Book Artist John Paul Leon’s Cause of Death
He was previously nominated for an Eisner for his work on the short story “Black Death in America” alongside Tom King, which appeared in Vertigo CMYK: Black issue.
He additionally provided many unforgettable covers and variant covers for Sgt Fury and his Howling Commandos, Detective Comics, Hellblazer, Mother Panic, DMZ, and therefore the law officer of Babylon.
In addition to his comic work, John provided style guides for the DC Universe movies Superman Returns; Batman Begins, inexperienced Lantern, and, therefore, the Dark Knight.
More recently, his work included the four-issue miniseries Batman: Creature of the Night. A story with King and Dave Stewart on the upcoming Batman and Catwoman special issue is due to be released in July, according to the Comic Book.

Another Twitter user wrote: “I worked with John Paul Leon very briefly. He did some DIE HARD covers for me. He said he didn’t care about the franchise, but when we told him that Chaykin set this in 1970s NYC he was into it. The results speak for themselves. He never failed to impress. An amazing talent. RIP.”
