What’s Jordan Cashmyer’s Cause of Death at 26?
’16 and Pregnant’ alum Jordan Cashmyer’s cause of death was not immediately available.
Cashmyer appeared in a 2014 episode of MTV’s “16 and Pregnant,” alongside her family and boyfriend, Derek Taylor. Jordan’s segment documented her struggles with securing employment and experiencing homelessness as a pregnant girl after being disowned by her family.
The couple became homeless during the pregnancy after her parents kicked her out of the family home, and Derek refused to get a job.
Jordan gave birth to a daughter, Evie, on March 7, 2014. They split following their baby’s birth, and Cashmyer later revealed that she suffered from depression and attempted suicide.
Jordan shared in a post to her official Facebook page in November 2014 that “there wasn’t much of a reason to live anymore.” She later signed over custody rights on a temporary basis to Taylor’s mother in 2015.
“I have been struggling with a lot of different things emotionally since I had Genevieve. I was diagnosed with post partum depression and was on medication for a little while for it, but I never followed up with my appointment,” she wrote.
The young mom added: “My mood wouldn’t stay stable for very long, I was extremely impulsive, couldn’t focus, the smallest things would set me off, and my anxiety got worse, as did my depression and OCD.
“I feel like my normal self; happy, smiling, talkative, and thinking clearly… Things really are looking up, and I am set on having the best possible future for my daughter and me.”
Years later, Jordan claimed she was actually hospitalized for an accidental overdose. “I was depressed due to the issues that were going on in my life at the time and was using drugs and drinking.”
“A family member decided to tell the hospital that I attempted an overdose because they believed that would get the proper treatment I needed,” she tweeted.
Jordan was arrested for drug possession in 2017, though she had directly confronted her intense struggle with addiction since the incident.
Cashmyer shared pictures from a party being held by her and her friends to celebrate a year of sobriety in January 2021.
She welcomed her second daughter, Lyla, with Schaffer last June. Months later, on September 9, he died of undisclosed causes. Schaffer’s family asked contributions in his memory to be made to the National Mental Health Alliance.
