Rumors Say Jiu-Jitsu Champion Leandro Lo Killed


Today rumors have started to spread on social media, claiming that multiple-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Leandro Lo was killed on August 7, 2022, at the young age of 33.

The heartbreaking news was announced by many official accounts including columnist Elias Cepeda in a statement shared on Twitter, writing, “It’s gross seeing so many people post about Leandro Lo’s killing as though he passed away in his sleep at age 90.”

The statement controversially added, “He was murdered with a gun and the suspect is a police officer. It’s time to demand justice, not sanitize his murder. Police killings are on the rise in Brazil.”

Lo became eight-time world jiu-jitsu champion; the last time was in 2022, in the light heavyweight category, the first time was ten years , in the light weight category. He competed in the US for another championship in the coming days, with four other fighters, according to a friend.

Leandro Lo was Killed After Being Shot

According to official sources like Wikipedia, Leandro Lo was killed after being shot in the head in an argument with an off-duty military police officer. The tragedy happened at a party in São Paulo, Brazil on 7 August 2022, and he lost his life on his way to the hospital.

Based on what the family’s lawyer, Ivã Siqueira Junior, said, the victim had an argument with the boy and to calm the situation, immobilized the man. After walking away, the boy pulled out a gun and shot the fighter once in the head.
