Murder One Actress Linda Carlson Dies after ALS Battle at 76


The actress on ‘Newhart’ and ‘Murder One,’ Linda Carlson’s obituary, was revealed while she was battling with ALS for several years. May she rest in peace.

The star, who appeared in a number of popular TV shows, died on October 26, 2021, in Connecticut, USA, following a struggle with ALS. Her family announced the heartbreaking news and paid tribute to the actress.

Linda Carlson was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on May 12, 1945, and raised in Minnesota. She was mainly known for her appearance as Bev Dutton on Newhart from 1985 until 1987. Two years later, she appeared on Days Of Our Lives as Dr. Elaine Schaefer.

Linda also starred in Steven Bochco’s Murder One and the television adaptation of Clueless. She moved to New York to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

The late actress soon appeared in local plays around NY in the early ’70s. Off-Broadway productions in which Carlson appeared include The Death of Lord Chatterley, The Harangues, Miss Julie, Winner Take All Demons: A Possession, and Light Up the Sky.

On Broadway, Linda portrayed Crete in Full Circle and was an understudy in A Memory of Two Mondays / 27 Wagons Full of Cotton, and They Knew What They Wanted.

Linda Carlson’s Cause of Death Relates to ALS

Linda Carlson’s obituary was revealed on October 2, 2021, and her cause of death was confirmed as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. She was 76.

Carlson appeared on Westside Medical, portrayed Katie McKenna on Kaz, and starred on Murder One. In 1977, he played the part of Ellen Sherback in the Kojak episode “Cry for the Kids.”

In the episode “Hotel Oceanview” of the series WKRP in Cincinnati, which premiered in 1980, Linda played a woman attracted to station salesman Herb Tarlek (Frank Bonner).

On the series Newhart, she had a recurring role as Bev Dutton, the manager of the Vermont television station where actor Bob Newhart hosted a Sunday afternoon interview program.

She appeared in numerous TV roles, including Cincinnati, Brothers and My Two Dads, Scarecrow and Mrs. King.

Carlson is survived by her second husband, James A. V. Hart, brother James Hale Carlson, sister Janet Ouren, and four nieces and nephews.
