Arsenal Superfan Maria Petri Passed Away


Fans are mourning the Arsenal superfan, the team’s supporter since 1950, Maria Petri who passed away on Friday, July 22, 2022, at the age of 82. May she rest in peace.

We send our thoughts and prayers to Arsenal fans and Maria’s loved ones.

And to honor the remembrance of the loyal fan, each player had a black armband on in their friendly against Chelsea to mark the passing of Maria carried it like a superpower when it came to positivity.

Arsenal shared a statement on Friday confirming the heartbreaking news; the statement read, “It was with great sadness that the club has heard of the passing of legendary supporter Maria Petri. It’s very difficult to put into words what Maria meant to everyone involved at Arsenal Football Club: players, staff, and fellow supporters.”

It also added that infrequently can it be claimed that ‘games just won’t be the same without a supporter, but Maria’s encouragement, her legendary ‘Come on You Gunners!’ and many, many supportive songs created over the decades, will really leave a hole on games at Emirates Stadium, Meadow Park and everywhere the team plays.

There are so many Ms. Petri memories down through decades: marking cup finals with the Women’s team, being seen by Ray Parlour with the FA Cup during the coronavirus epidemy, repeating her Beth Mead song with ‘Meado’ herself, while whoever she was with, whichever Arsenal team she was supporting, every image of Maria was always lit up by her fabulous smile.

Maria Petri Passed Away Due to Natural Causes

There is no official report on how Maria Petri passed away at this time, but her close friends announced she lost her life because of natural causes.

A broadcaster of other tributes to Petri, who began following Arsenal in 1950 when she was only 12 and was declared to have “never missed a game”, soon poured in online.

She always attended games at Highbury and the Emirates Stadium and additionally closely pursued Arsenal’s Ladies’ side since they were established in 1987.

Beloved Maria Petri was so positive. That energy was unforgetable. She was totally anti any form of complaint. So no matter how imperfect things ever were, no matter how many people were reaching on somebody’s back, it just passed over her.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta announced, “We are all really sorry to hear the news. She was an integral part of our support and our community. The way she transmitted Arsenal values and the feeling of this football club was something I have never seen before. She was everywhere, every single week and she will be missed. Big time.”
