Mary Peltola’s Husband’s Death at 57 in Plane Crash in Alaska

Mary Peltola’s husband’s death was announced by her congressional office in a statement Wednesday morning. He died in died in an airplane crash in western Alaska.
“We are devastated to share that Mary’s husband, Eugene Peltola Jr. — ‘Buzzy’ to all of us who knew and loved him — passed away earlier this morning following a plane accident in Alaska,” Anton McParland, Peltola’s chief of staff, said in a statement.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board reported in separate statements that a single-engine plane crashed after takeoff around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday (September 12, 2023) near St. Mary’s, a small city in western Alaska.

the NTSB said: “The pilot flew a hunter and the hunter’s equipment to a remote location 64 miles away from St. Mary’s.
After leaving the hunter, the plane took off to return and appears to have crashed in an area of remote, mountainous terrain. The pilot was the only person on board.”
NTSB investigators are responding with the Alaska Army National Guard, the agency said.
“He was one of those people that was obnoxiously good at everything. He had a delightful sense of humor that lightened the darkest moments,” said the statement by Rep. Peltola’s chief of staff.
“He was definitely the cook in the family. “He was completely devoted to his parents, kids, siblings, extended family and friends — and he simply adored Mary. We are heartbroken for the family’s loss.”

Mary Peltola’s Husband’s death shocked everyone as the 57-year-old Eugene “Buzzy” Peltola Jr died in an airplane crash in western Alaska.
Mary Peltola is returning home to Alaska to be with her heartbroken family, McParland said, and has asked for privacy.
In a statement, the White House said President Joe Biden expressed his deepest condolences on the loss of Mary Peltola’s husband.

“Jill and I send our love and prayers to Congresswoman Mary Sattler Peltola on the sudden death of her husband, Eugene ‘Buzzy’ Peltola, Jr., earlier today in a plane accident in Alaska,” the president, 80, wrote in a statement.
Biden continued: “Biden continued: “To the family — such a loss is cruel and unfair, and the first hours, days, and weeks will be the hardest. But we hope you remember that he will always be with you.
“And we pray the day will come when his memory will bring a smile to your lips before it brings a tear to your eyes. It will take time, but that day will come.”
“In the difficult time ahead, we keep you in our prayers. May God bless Eugene ‘Buzzy’ Peltola, Jr,” Biden wrote.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., also expressed his sadness and said he was “deeply saddened.”
“The entire House Democratic Caucus is mourning the loss of Buzzy and we are lifting Mary and the Peltola family up in prayer. We will be there for her in any way she needs during this unimaginable time of tragedy,” Jeffries said in a statement.
