Mike Hagerty’s Unexpected Death at 67 Breaks Hearts
The longtime Character Actor and Friends‘ Mr. Treeger sadly passed away at the age of 67. The heartbreaking news led to rising many questions related to Mike Hagerty’s cause of death.
Bridget Everett shared the sad news on Instagram Friday, writing: “With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles. A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life.”
“Mike, a devoted husband, is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty [and] her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg. He will be sorely missed,” Everett, who most recently starred opposite Hagerty on the HBO comedy Somebody, Somewhere said.
In a second Instagram post, Everett also said that she “loved Mike the instant I met him. He was so special. Warm, funny, never met a stranger. We are devastated he has passed.”
Mike was perhaps mainly known for his recurring role as Mr. Treeger in Friends. In the Season 4 episode “The One With the Ballroom Dancing,” Joey Tribbiani reluctantly agreed to be the building manager’s dance partner after he threatened to have Monica and Rachel evicted.
Hagerty was a series regular on The George Carlin Show and Lucky Louie. He also starred in Boston Legal, CSI, ER, Cheers, Seinfeld, the original Wonder Years, Monk, and more.
He was a member of The Second City at the beginning of his professional career. Hagerty was not just on television but also starred in films such as Blinders and Inspector Gadget.
Mike appeared on Fox’s The George Carlin Show, which aired for 2 seasons between 1994 and 1995, and HBO’s Lucky Louie, which ran for 1 season in 2006. The actor’s extensive list of credits also includes episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, ER, and Ghost Whisperer.
H also had roles in movies such as Glee, The Goldbergs, Grey’s Anatomy, Happy Endings, Medium, The Mindy Project, Mob City, Monk, Seinfeld, Shameless, The Wayans Bros., and the original Wonder Years.

What was Mike Hagerty’s Cause of Death?
Although Hagerty’s death has been confirmed by his family, Mike Hagerty’s cause of death has not been revealed at this time. “With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles,” the family said in a statement.

Born and raised in Chicago, Mike was always known for his thick mustache and Chicago accent. Mike is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn and his sister Mary Ann.
He most recently appeared on the Somebody, Somewhere, playing the role of farmer Ed Miller, father of Everett’s Sam.
His friends, fans, and fellow actors have started pouring in tributes on social media. Second City alum, Sean Masterson tweeted a series of photos of Mike and wrote, “RIP Mike Hagerty. Funny, sweet, and a total pro. Thanks for the decades of laughs. He will be missed.”
ABC-7 reporter Richard Roeper said, “Sad to hear of the passing of Second City stalwart and character actor Mike Hagerty, recently seen as the dad on ‘Somebody Somewhere’ on @HBO. Mike had the classic Chicago mustache and accent, and a natural onscreen presence. He always came to play.”
Sarah Jessica Parker wrote on Instagram: “No. No. No. no. Oh, terrible loss, and k will miss him on your show. Heartbreaking. Admired him for years. X.”
The news came out just days after David Birney’s Cause of Death was released. He sadly passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022, at his home in Santa Monica.
