Detroit Lions Pro Bowl linebacker passed away on October 26, 2021, at the age of 81. Mike Lucci’s has not been announced, but it has been revealed that he died following an extended illness.
His family announced the heartbreaking news of Mike Lucci’s death on Tuesday. Following the sad news, the Detroit Lions released a statement honoring the player.
“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mike Lucci, whose passion for life was felt by all who knew him. Many will remember Mike for his toughness as a player during his nine seasons with the Lions, earning Pro Bowl honors in 1971 and being named the team’s defensive MVP three times.
“His positive presence as a leader within our Lions Legends community made him a familiar face to all, and his willingness to give back will always be part of his great legacy.
“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife, Patricia, and the entire Lucci family,” the statement reads.

What’s Mike Lucci’s Cause of Death at 81?
While many fans are searching for Mike Lucci’s cause of death, there aren’t any official details surrounding his death cause. His family also has not shared any statement surrounding Beverly Tate’s cause of death.
Mike joined the Lions as a result of a three-team transaction in August 1965. He, along with a draft pick, was first sent by the Browns to the NY Giants for all-pro cornerback Erich Barnes.
During his time, he earned All-NFL honors. He was named to the Pro Bowl following the 1971 season. He was also named the team’s defensive MVP from 1969 to 1971.
After his retirement, Lucci worked as a radio analyst for Lions games from 1976 to 1978. He also went on to become a successful businessman in Metro Detroit.
The Lions legend was the former president of Bally Total Fitness which at that time was the largest commercial operator of fitness centers in the U.S.

“Really sad to see this, Mike Lucci was a great man. Knew him for years since I was a kid. Donated lots of time to helping people and organizations in Detroit and surrounding areas. Seen him at @Lions games every year. So sorry to see him go,” a Twitter user wrote.
