SiMan Baby’s Cousin, DJ Mix Master Mitch Passed Away
Unfortunately, a cousin of Atlanta radio veteran Silas “SiMan” Alexander passed away. Long-time cancer has been reported as Classix 102.9 DJ Mix Master Mitch’s cause of death.
After 20 years doing weekend party shows for Kiss 104.1 and hosting Kiss’s Flashback Festivals, Mitch was on Classix for the past two years doing much the same thing.
Gary “DJ Mix Master Mitch” Mitchell was an Atlanta radio veteran. He was born and raised in Atlanta, proud to be a “Grady Baby” and graduate of Mays High School, Class of 1983.
He had entered Atlanta listeners as a radio personality, emcee, and DJ for over 30 years. His comedic delivery on the microphone and mixing of old school and today’s R&B tracks created the perfect dance blend to engage the audience. The playful DJ was a club favorite with original fans from KISS 104.1 to his part-time work at Classix 102.9.
What’s DJ Mix Master Mitch’s Cause of Death?
Gary Mitchell, who was known as DJ Mix Master Mitch, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, after battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
In April, doctors figured out that Mitch had spots on his liver from pancreatic cancer after he experienced pain in his stomach.
He had been doing chemotherapy and radiation ever since. He had not worked since then and was unable to host DJ events.
His cousin, SiMan Baby, 58, announced that he had pancreatic cancer either and is going through comparable treatment. He had found out his diagnosis a few weeks after Mitch. “When I told him on the phone that I had the same cancer he has, he broke down and cried because he knew what I was in for,” SiMan said at that time.
Pancreatic cancer is seldom detected at its early stages because it often doesn’t cause symptoms until after it has spread to other organs.
The two grew up together as children. “He was more than a cousin to me. He was a mentor. He was a protégé. I always looked up to him. We have similar energies.”
