The story behind ex South Carolina quarterback Phil Petty’s cause of death has been revealed, which shocked fans after he passed away today (July 21, 2022) at the age of 43.

Former American football wide receiver Santonio Holmes confirmed the news, announcing, “He was my brother and a leader of our team. He led us to the turnaround we had and was a great friend, great dad, and husband.”

Former South Carolina quarterback Phil Petty has died. He was 43 years old.

The legend was a three-year starter at quarterback for South Carolina and guided the Gamecocks to back-to-back Outback Bowl wins against Ohio State in 2001 and 2002. Beloved Petty was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas award, an award given to the best quarterback in the country, during his senior season.

Petty was MVP of the 2002 Outback Bowl after pitching for 227 yards and two scores in the 31-28 victory over the Buckeyes.

Phil earned a job in June on the Gray Collegiate football staff. Gray Collegiate head coach Adam Holmes’ confirmed the heartbreaking news of Petty’s death on Thursday morning. He and Holmes were teammates at USC and also were at each other’s weddings.

Petty leaves behind his wife and two children.

Rumor of Overdose Behind Phil Petty’s Cause of Death

Although there is no official report about Phil Petty’s exact cause of death, some claim the late star lost his life due to an overdose.

In his last two seasons at USC, Petty finished 306-of-547 passes for 4,079 yards and 17 touchdowns while guiding South recording to a 17-7 record. He threw for 2,110 yards in 2000, helping the Gamecocks to an 8-4 mark, which completed the greatest single-season turnaround in Division I-A history after an 0-11 campaign in 1999.

Petty’s 5,656 career passing yards are seventh overall in South Carolina’s record books. His 17 victories as starting QB are seventh-most all-time.

After USC, Petty signed as a free agent with the Tennessee Titans but was released. He performed for a few years as an assistant coach with the East Carolina football team.

Beloved Neal took his last breath on Monday, and the local medical examiner’s office confirmed the heartbreaking news. After his dead body was discovered in his apartment, Nolan Neal’s cousin Dylan Seals confirmed that the late star “ultimately succumbed to his battle with substance abuse.”

Nashville’s Medical Examiner’s Office has not shared any comment at this time, but the artist described him as “one of the most talented people” he’s ever met while working in the entertainment industry.

Neal first came to fame as a competitor in The Voice’s 15th season in 2016. His audition show of the Incubus song “Drive” led him to seize a place on Adam Levine’s team, though he was finally deleted from the competition.

    Absolutely not an overdose. Phil didn’t do drugs. He started feeling I’ll on Tuesday, went in the hospital on Wednesday and was gone early Thursday morning. Was told it was a rare acute organ failure.
