He was not your everyday journalist nor was he the guy with a suit a tie. Yet, this gentle giant personified everything “Hawaii” and he was proud of it. He had the local touch and did not put on airs. In plain and simple terms, he was Robert, the Mr. Aloha that made you feel comfortable in your own shell. There was nothing phony about him; everything was in living color and realistic. Unlike some of the journalists we watch on television, Robert was Robert; there was no bullshitting about his persona. This is what made him unique; he knew what he was, who he was and where he was gonna’ go. He was in a class all by himself. He left us all too soon and I’m sure gonna miss that guy even if I didn’t know him personally. He was the best that KITV could offer and I’m forever grateful that this station kept him on until the very end.
