Science Fiction Author Ron Goulart’s Death Shocked Fans

Sadly, a well-known comic book historian Ron Goulart died on January 13, 2022, at the age of 89. Author Ron Goulart’s sudden death has broken people’s hearts.

Ron Goulart was a multi-award-winning mystery and science fiction author who also wrote for Marvel Comics. His work was published in magazines such as Vampire Tales, Journey into Mystery, and others.

Goulart was also known for his chronicling comic book history, such as Ron Goulart’s Great History of Comic Books, which was published in 1986, and the more comprehensive Comic Book Encyclopedia: The Ultimate Guide to Characters, Graphic Novels, Writers, and Artists in the Comic Book Universe, which was published in 2004.

Over the course of his career as an author, Goulart was published under a wide range of pen names, including publisher Street and Smith’s Kenneth Robeson, Con Steffanson, Chad Calhoun, R.T. Edwards, Ian R. Jamieson, Josephine Kains, Jillian Kearny, Howard Lee, Zeke Masters, Frank S. Shawn and Joseph Silva. He also worked as a ghostwriter on projects including William Shatner’s TekWar novels, first published in 1989.

Jeffrey Canino tweeted: “RIP to Ron Goulart, purveyor of much fine, silly science fiction, who passed away yesterday (the day after his own birthday!) at the age of 89. I have many of his books in my collection, but here are his VAMPIRELLA novelizations, published between 1975-1976 by Warner Books.”

Jim Thomsen wrote on Twitter: “I have been unable to find it, but I remember reading a Ron Goulart story in an Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine anthology in the late 1970s in which he write something like: “He slapped the Cheroot out of the yegg’s mouth and said, ‘I’ll mix the metaphors around here.'”

    So sorry to hear of his death. He was one of my most reliable authors. I knew that if I grabbed one of his slim novels I was likely to be entertained and do some laughing. I learned speed reading working to finish his books during a single bath.
