Reactions to Unexpected Death of Sam Ehlinger’s Brother, Jake Ehlinger
Quickly after the tragic news released, many of beloved Jake Ehlinger’s friends and fans expressed their sadness on social media by posting their tributes. Ross Bjork, Texas A&M athletic director, was one of the first ones who publicly offer condolences to Ehlinger’s heartbroken family.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian described late Jake as a “tremendous person” and “everything you could ask for in a student-athlete.”
“Being a Longhorn meant everything to him, and he truly embodied all that it means to be one,” Sarkisian continued. “In the short time we were able to get to know him, he always was a joy to be around and gave everything he had in workouts, meetings, practice and in life.”

In January of 2019, Jake Ehlinger entered the program as a walk-on with the program. The news of him joining Texas led to a number of celebratory tweets from some of the Longhorns’ roster at the time, such as a few from the linebacker unit.

Jake Ehlinger’s Autopsy Result Will Clarify His Death Reason
Weeks after Jake Ehlinger’s sudden death, no reliable source announced any details about his cause of death.
Colts owner Jim Irsay released a statement, saying, “It’s very sad and tragic news that we received this afternoon during such an exciting time for the family, and our hearts and prayers are with the whole family. I know how close they were and we’re just really stunned, but we are prayerful and we know God has a plan. We are doing everything we can to console the family and do what we can to make things as easy as possible at this difficult time.”
The Colts also claimed that they took care of Sam Ehlinger’s travel accommodations to return to Austin after his family’s tragedy.
“There are no magic words in these moments, but all we can do is be there to love and support Sam,” Colts head coach Frank Reich stated. “We will do everything we can. With Sam, our thoughts and prayers are with him and his mother and his sister as they mourn the tragic death of Sam’s brother, Jake.”
Austin police didn’t reveal how they found Jake Ehlinger’s dead body or even what the cause of death was.
About 800 people gathered at Riverbend Church for Jake Ehlinger’s funeral service. His brother Sam and Chaparrals coach Todd Dodge were among the remembered him and portrayed Jake as a kind son, brother, and teammate.
