The legend had one of the 10 most played country music songs of the year in Canada. He released Life Is Calling My Name, his debut album, in 2006, which included the singles “Beautiful Concept,” “They’re All About You,” “Pickup Truck” and “I Remember the Music.”
Mr. Shane opened for Emerson Drive on their cross-Canada tour. In June 2007, to represent his native Canada, he was later chosen by performing at the Fourth Annual Global Artist Party at the CMA Music Festival.
“Pickup Truck,” Yellowbird’s third single, gained him much popularity and was considered his first Top 5 song on the Canadian Country Singles chart in the summer of 2007. Also, the video topped the CMT Chevy Top 20 in July, while the song peaked at No. 64 on the all-genre Canadian Hot 100.
Starring alongside Lorne Cardinal and Gabrielle Miller of Corner Gas, Yellowbird opened the 2007 Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards. Of course, he was named the Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year later that evening.
Putting those aside, he also earned awards for Best Country CD and Best Music Video which was Pickup Truck. Besides those victories, he received three trophies at the 2007 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards, which included Best Male Artist, Best Country Album, and Best Album of the Year for Life Is Calling My Name.
