Day of Disaster; Singer Shane Yellowbird Passed Away at 42

With a heavy heart, we have to inform you of the heartbreaking news which follows the Canadian singer’s death on April 26, 2022. Shane Yellowbird passed away at the age of 42, with no health issues in the background.

Born on July 7, 1979, the country music singer-songwriter from Alberta was named the Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year at the Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards, Chevy Trucks Rising Star of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Awards.

The legend had one of the 10 most played country music songs of the year in Canada. He released Life Is Calling My Name, his debut album, in 2006, which included the singles “Beautiful Concept,” “They’re All About You,” “Pickup Truck” and “I Remember the Music.”

The beloved Canadian singer, Shane Yellowbird passed away on April 26.

Mr. Shane opened for Emerson Drive on their cross-Canada tour. In June 2007, to represent his native Canada, he was later chosen by performing at the Fourth Annual Global Artist Party at the CMA Music Festival.

Pickup Truck,” Yellowbird’s third single, gained him much popularity and was considered his first Top 5 song on the Canadian Country Singles chart in the summer of 2007. Also, the video topped the CMT Chevy Top 20 in July, while the song peaked at No. 64 on the all-genre Canadian Hot 100.

Starring alongside Lorne Cardinal and Gabrielle Miller of Corner Gas, Yellowbird opened the 2007 Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards. Of course, he was named the Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year later that evening.

Putting those aside, he also earned awards for Best Country CD and Best Music Video which was Pickup Truck. Besides those victories, he received three trophies at the 2007 Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards, which included Best Male Artist, Best Country Album, and Best Album of the Year for Life Is Calling My Name.

Shane Yellowbird Passed Away, Leaving Fans Heartbroken

Sadly, Shane Yellowbird passed away too soon. No cause of death has been shared by his family or any other reliable reports. No sign of any disease or health issues has been mentioned in any reports.

London’s Pure Country 93 announced: “#BREAKING It’s a sad day in Canadian Country Music as we’ve learned that Cree country singer, Shane Yellowbird, passed away yesterday. We don’t know the cause of death💔”

Another tweeted: ‘The Annual Community Celebration committee are sad to hear of the passing of Indigenous music artist, Shane Yellowbird. Shane blessed our stage in 2009. We send our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and the music community.”

New Country 100.7 tribute: “Sad news in Canadian country music. Shane Yellowbird passed away at the age of 42. Shane was an Alberta-born Indigenous artist who won the Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year & Chevy Trucks Rising Star Award at the CCMAs in 2007. We’re sending love to his family at this time.”

A fan wrote: “Such sad news to hear this morning that much-loved country music artist Shane Yellowbird has begun his spiritual journey. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers to his family and his community of Hobbema Cree Nation.”
