Singer Stonewall Jackson Passed Away after Battling an Illness

Unfortunately, a country singer, guitarist, and longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry radio show passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the age of 89. Stonewall Jackson’s cause of death has been confirmed as battling vascular dementia.

Jackson had been a member of the Opry for over six decades, the longest of any active member. In 1956, he was the first performer to be offered a five-year contract with the venue, and he was the first to accept it before signing a record deal.

Stonewall Jackson died of an illness

Jackson has 44 hits on the Billboard country chart over his career. From the 1950s until the 1970s, he charted songs that included the No. 1 singles Waterloo and B.J. A Wound Time, Can’t Erase, Don’t Be Angry, and his 1958 debut single, Life To Go, composed by George Jones, are among his many hits. Jackson recorded his debut song, “Life to Go,” a cautionary jail ballad penned by George Jones, two years after joining the Grand Ole Opry.

He released his trademark “Waterloo” in 1959. The song, written by John D. Loudermilk and Marijohn Wilkin, detailed the deaths of historical characters such as Napoleon and the biblical Adam.
