Formula 1 cameraman Thomas Bonnecarrere’s cause of death is still unknown after he reportedly passed away in the night from Monday to Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at the age of 49. May he rest in peace.

The heartbreaking news has been confirmed on social media by his friend, the TF1 journalist, Marion Jollès, on Instagram, while Taylor Stawicki also took to her Facebook account to announce the sad news.

Marion, the wife of Romain Grosjean, announced that her friend, a cameraman by profession and famous in the Formula 1 world, Thomas Bonnecarrère, is dead. This family man took his last breath on May 25 while he was only 49.

It’s a tough period for the presenter of TF1; she worked alongside Thomas Bonnecarrere for the show Automoto for many years. Their collaboration went beyond the professional sphere since the cameraman had followed Marion Jollès in her most special moments, like her union with the love of her life, on June 27, 2012.

Drive to Survive pays tribute to Thomas Bonnecarrere with touching title card dedication

DRIVE TO SURVIVE returns to Netflix with its fourth season on Friday, March 11, and dedicated one of its newest installments to someone close to many in the F1 world, Thomas Bonnecarrere.

The fourth series of Drive to Survive has dropped just days before the new 2022 season gets underway in Bahrain as the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen go head to head once more given last season’s controversial and much talked about the climax.

With Verstappen currently reigning champion following his Abu Dhabi Grand Prix victory in December 2021, fans will get an all-access look behind the scenes of the build-up which led to the results. But away from the action on the track, Netflix’s Drive to Survive has added a tribute to cameraman Thomas Bonnecarrere.

I can’t begin to tell you all the magic he showed me when I first saw his massive video camera videoing Formula One it was truly amazing. I will miss you buddy Rest In Peace.”

Marion Jollès opened up about her first meeting with Thomas Bonnecarrère, which led them to shape an amazing friendship. A strong bond that united them in good times but also in bad times.

“What did we laugh about … What we cried, too, at the funeral of his dad, Jacques, a few years later … But that’s not what I will remember. It’s impossible. His smile. His kindness. His words after Romain’s accident. We will miss you so much, Thomas. The movie of our wedding, I will always watch it thinking of you from now on. Heartache today, friends“, she continued by sharing a snapshot of the beloved cameraman celebrating his marriage to Romain Grosjean.
