Thomas Ulsrud’s Cause of Sudden Death: Lost The Battle to Cancer

We are informed that sadly, a world champion and Olympic curler, Thomas Ulsrud’s cause of death was announced by his team on social media. He suddenly passed away on May 25, 2022, at the age of 50.

Ulsrud helped Norway’s team win silver at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010 as part of the “Curling clowns” that drew lots of media coverage because of their unusual attire in patriotic colors.

Ulsrud was married to Elin and had a son named Jesper.

Thomas Ulsrud’s cause of death was announced by his team on their Facebook page. Sadly he passed away on May 25, 2022, at the age of 50.

Thomas Ulsrud’s team of Torger Nergard, Christoffer Svae, and Havard Vad Petersson became well-known for wearing bright, colorful pants from Loudmouth Golf.

The Norwegian team became immediately famous when they debuted outrageous pants as competition wear at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, where they won silver behind Kevin Martin’s host team.

Their pants are still famous for the next 20 years. The Facebook page for their pants still has nearly 450,000 followers!

Once Trulsen said about him that Ulsrud sold all his sun-tanning studios to be able to play curling full-time, and trained two to three times a day. He was the most serious player we had at that time.

His presence in the team led them to also become European Champions in 2010 and 2011. For fair play and being a gentleman, Ulsrud himself also won a special prize from the international curling federation for best exemplifying “traditional curling values”.

In 2014, Ulsrud won a world title in Beijing, and also in 2015, won silver in Halifax. He competed in 12 world men’s curling championships in all. In 2006,2008 and 2009, he won bronze.

He was a popular and successful player. His honors include:

  • winning events around the world,
  • playing in 12 world championships,
  • 17 European championships and
  • three Olympics.

He also won six silver and three bronze medals at the European Championships throughout his career.

Thomas Ulsrud’s Cause of Death Revealed

Ulsrud team split up in 2019 and they have been inactive since then. But today the Team Ulsrud Facebook page sadly announced his death by sharing a post that said:
”Thomas has been fighting cancer since December 2020, but the last week it took a turn for the worse, and in the end, he was gone very quickly”.

Thomas Ulsrud’s cause of death was announced by his team on their Facebook page. Sadly he passed away on May 25, 2022, at the age of 50.

It has been reported that Thomas Ulsrud endured nearly 30 chemotherapy sessions as well as embraced naturopathic options. He truly was a fighter to the end.

They also added:

”We the team are devastated for our loss. Being around Ulsrud was always a joy and we will miss our skipper deeply!”

Hardline Curling paid its respect and said: ”Very sad news in the curling world today with the announcement of the passing of Thomas Ulsrud of Norway. A world champion and Olympic silver medalist, he was a fan favorite for his engaging personality. He will be missed. Our condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace”.

MikeH tweeted: ”Very sad news out of Norway today. World champion, and better person, Thomas Ulsrud has passed away. I was fortunate to spend a little time with him, and he was a joy to be around, always. I’m very sad for his family, and teammate, and many many friends”.

”Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Thomas Ulsrud. He was a great curler, but more importantly an incredible person. Always had a smile or was willing to share a laugh. Send my condolences to his family, friends and teammates, he will be missed”. Brad Gushue shared his condolence on social media.

Some believe that he is the skip with the most victories in international championships and probably the best curling spiller that the world has ever had.

He’ll be missed both nationally and internationally. May he rest in peace.
